Basketball - American basketball star Brittney Griner is scheduled to stand trial in Russia on Friday on charges of illegal cannabis possession.

 

The 31-year-old, a three-time WNBA league champion and seven-time All-Star, could face 10 years in prison if convicted. 

 

Griner was detained on 17 February at a Moscow-area airport after cannabis oil was allegedly found in her luggage.

 

Cricket - England romped to victory on the final day of the third Test against New Zealand at Headingley Yorkshire to seal a stunning 3-0 series win. 

 

The hosts scored the 113 runs needed to complete their chase of 296 in only 65 minutes as they won by seven wickets.

 

Tennis - Defending champion Novak Djokovic says the possibility of not being allowed to contest another Grand Slam for 11 months is "motivation" for Wimbledon after his quest for a fourth successive title began with a four-set victory over South Korean world number 81 Kwon Soon-woo 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-4. 

 

The 20-time major winner missed the Australian Open following a row over his vaccine status, while proof of vaccination is also currently required to gain entry into the United States.
