Uvalde report: 376 officers but ‘egregiously poor’ decisions

 

UVALDE, Texas (AP) — Nearly 400 law enforcement officials rushed to a mass shooting at a Uvalde elementary school, but “egregiously poor decision-making” resulted in more than an hour of chaos before the gunman who took 21 lives was finally confronted and killed, according to a damning investigative report released Sunday.

The nearly 80-page report was the first to criticize both state and federal law enforcement, and not just local authorities in the South Texas town for the bewildering inaction by heavily armed officers as a gunman fired inside two fourth-grade classrooms at Robb Elementary School, killing 19 students and two teachers.

Altogether, the report amounted to the fullest account to date of the one of the worst school shootings in U.S. history. But it did not satisfy all parents and relatives of the victims, some of whom blasted the police as cowards and called for them to resign.

Weasel words... "egregiously poor decision-making."

   The entire police force in Uvalde, Texas should be cashiered.

100 shots fired before cops showed up? Well, there is a good argument for banning semi auto assault rifles... make the crazies use guns with slow fire rate and magazines so easier for cops to put them down

Obviously, these police officers value their own lives more than the children. I have never sent my children to a public school including university.

Isn't the fact of the matter that they acted in a cowardly manner ? why beat about the bush, say it as it really is.

The vast majority of firearms in the US are semi-automatic.  Whether they are "assault rifles" or not (whatever that means) is irrelevant. Just as easy to use a handgun or two and fire off that many shots in just a couple of minutes.

 

As for the police reaction, never has the phrase "too many cooks spoil the broth" been more tragically correct.  Nobody wanted to make the call, nobody wanted to jeopardize their pension. Police training has been the same for more than 20 years- in a case with an active shooter, the first police on the scene are to rush in and try to take him down withOUT waiting for backup.  This is the best way to potentially save innocent lives. Yet the cops here showed utter cowardice. No wonder Americans prefer to arm themselves- who would trust their safety to clowns like these?

If there is ever any argument about the awful guns laws and mass shootings in schools with assault or any weapons this is it. Disgusting and shameful.

Unfortunately, there aren't any gun laws that I know of that would have prevented this nutjob from doing the crime. That is the funny thing about criminals- they don't follow the laws that well intentioned people put in place.

He bought both guns and the ammunition legally.  He wasn't a criminal until he got into a pickup and drove it without a license, he wasn't a criminal until he trespassed on school property with a weapon and he wasn't a felon until he started shooting.   If the gun had been illegal in the first place, he wouldn't have been able to buy one at a store.  If the age was 21 for the purchase, he wouldn't have had one.

Once again you need to be more specific.

Can we at least stop listening to cops on how to deal with gun crime.

 

 

These cops at the scene as stated above were so worried about doing something that might jeopardize their job that they do nothing. This is just my opinion, imagine the blow back had the first 2 cops  engaged the shooter and wounded a student.

Yet he waited till his 18th birthday to legally buy 2 AR-style rifles and 375 rounds of 5.56-caliber ammo then used 30-round magazines. Although he left one of the rifles in the truck he crashed nearby the school. It was also around 142 rounds he fired inside the building.

You've seen the video, looks more to me like they ran for their lives as fast as their cowardly legs could take them as soon as they heard the shots
