One worker died and five others were injured when the net in which they were being lifted off a coal freighter onto the dockside by crane on Si Racha Island, in Thailand’s eastern province of Chon Buri, snapped yesterday evening.

Port officials said that the net was about 20 metres above the freighter when it failed, sending all six workers falling onto the deck of the vessel.

The injured workers were rushed to three hospitals in Si Racha district, but one was pronounced dead upon arrival. The five others are being treated for impact injuries.

Just in case you didn't get the message, Safety regulations are made for a reason - Once again Thailand fail on their safety ...............

I guess, walking off the ship the normal way was totally out of the question.

The string snapped.... but seriously when was the last time

it was checked . if ever, RIP the guy who died , hope those

injured have a fast recovery

regards Worgeordie

It had probably been happening for years with incident. Then, one day...

It reminds me when I took an job as an office johnny in Sydney at age 19. I was on the 12th floor and looked out the window to see a rigger riding on a steel beam, one hand on the cable and no safety harness. I came from a country town and this was a shock but even then I understood this to be highly dangerous.

"Officials said that wind was strong at the time of the accident and the net might have given way because it could not hold the weight."

This one must have graduated top of the class.

Unbelievable!! no gangplanks or ladders etc.

Personnel transfer basket failed looks like.

Transferring by personnel basket is common offshore in the Gulf of Thailand.

In the Uk they use rigid personnel transfer devices, and the net type are banned.

Let's hope the 12 FlipFlops are okay.
