Afghanistan marks 1 year since Taliban seizure as woes mount

Featured Replies

At the airport, at taxi stands, and at bread shops it's not hard to find children seeking a handout.

KABUL, Afghanistan -- The Taliban on Monday marked a year since they seized the Afghan capital in a rapid takeover that triggered a hasty escape of the nation's Western-backed leaders, sent the economy into a tailspin and fundamentally transformed the country.

Bearded Taliban fighters, some hoisting rifles or the white banners of their movement, staged victory parades on foot, bicycles and motorcycles in the streets of Kabul. One group marched past the former U.S. Embassy, chanting “Long live Islam” and “Death to America.”

Joe? You mean Donald, the guy who 'negotiated' with the Taliban. Joe had no choice here.

Yep, Trump had a deal to leave that un-winnable conflict, without more losses to USA military personal, or leaving everything behind in tack.

Signed Feb 2020

Leave date May 2021

Everything after Feb 2021 is blood on biden & harris's hands

Biden ignored & extended that till Aug, and made a clusterF out of it.

Trumps decision to pull out ASAP was long overdue, as Afghan gov't & military couldn't be trusted, as infiltrated by too many Taliban & al queda.

Should have never been there in the first place.  Thank you Pres cheney ... may you die a long, horrible & painful death.

Even if I accept your proposition that Biden HAD to carry out Trump's arranged withdrawal, the chaos is entirely down to the inhabitant of the W H at the time.

Allowing a withdrawal without removing or destroying the equipment is inexcusable.

The afghans were left with the tools to reclaim their country from an ignorant corrupt religious theocracy, unfortunately for the people they chose their lot feel sorry for the women but it’s their choice.
