A three-year-old child suffered a severe electric shock after touching a metal chain near Bang saray Beach in Sattahip and was hospitalized.

 

Local media visited Ms. Pornchita Sawang-rom, 22, at a hospital today, September 1st, after a story about her poor three-year-old son who got electrocuted after touching a metal chain and sustained injuries sparked criticism on Thai social media.

 

According to Pornchita, the terrifying incident took place around 8 p.m. on August 30th in the Sattahip district of Chonburi. Her son was walking down Bangsaray Beach with her and came to look at a propeller memorial on the beachside that was decorated with two fences and metal chains.

Yes looks like the work of your typical Thai sparky , the little

lad is lucky to be alive , so many ways to die here ,when things

are not done correctly .

Very sad that situations exist almost everywhere here. It's unnecessary, and totally avoidable. unless some type of real education and punishment is enacted it will continue. The value of life isn't very high here unfortunately

They just don't get SAFETY, electrical or driving or otherwise.  Don't know or don't care or it couldn't happen to me.  Sad.

Land of electrocutions with no culpability hope the toddler is ok and Mum gets some kind of result ????

Have to say this is why I really fear wire burying in floody Pattaya and Bangkok

Beware what you touch here. Good grounding and a ELCB would prevent this.

So many people in Thailand have no pride in what they do. Any way will do. What a sad way to live. We've just had a college-trained electrician do some work at our house and he simply fixed a couple of wires together with so-called insulating tape - like in the photo in the linked article. My wife told me not to be fussy.

They really left the electrical wire just laying on top of the walkway???

 

Who needs a green earth wire anyway?

Reminds me of walking into a restaurant on an RTA base near Chanthaburi once. They had a fan running without a shroud and I just slowly gravitated over to it with my hand out like I was mesmerized.

 

I was surprised as a couple of my Thai co-workers and the lady owner all started yelling "MAI CHAI, MAI CHAI!!!".

There is electrical wire going to the stainless steel post with the chain linked to another post ....  so their must be a light on top of the post   ?

did the boy touch the chain linking the posts ?

why the heck is that chain live ???   

or did the boy touch the electrical wiring on the ground that is not in conduit  ??

Its not on a private property either!!! but in a public access-way!

How hard is it to do a decent job; Lift the pavers, lay the electrical conduit at least under the pavers, then cut into the side of to introduce the conduit into the drainage conduit and re-mud the cut.

 

I know this 'dodgy brothers' stuff is 'normal' here but dear mother of !!!!!

 

I learnt from older wiser members here never touch anything when out and about here e.g. brush against low hanging wires.

I still (like my dear old dad electrical engineer taught me) when in possible suspect places (old buildings and building sites) never touch metal gates, railings, etc but always with the back of my hand first before clasping any metal with my hands.

Bali is a death trap too from such dangerous compromised wiring.

I might take that back... if what I see in the pic is accurate... wires out of conduit and perhaps what is a joint there with a bit of insulation tope round it.... hard to protect against such!

Yes , back home it was always twin and earth , here new products like washing machines and lawn mowers come with twin and earth likely Japanese . I have a large drum of cable , the 4 sockets on the side are twin and earth the plug is only twin.

Careful...  We’re going to get a couple of posters accusing the forum of Thai bashing and post a coupe of articles where someone got electrocuted in other countries !!! 

 

 

Safety is a major concern here - there is no proactive attitude towards it...  trying to head off potential issues often lends to the accusation of ‘making a problem’ or 'thinking too much’...  forcing a safety issue can make us unpopular.

 

We had a kitchen extension, I wanted a physical switch at the cooker (as they have in the UK) because it was possible to inadvertently turn on the cooker at the touch-sensitive surface, The contractor thought I was mad we already had fuse at the mains - I was faced with the awkward situation of having to force the issue.

City workers will be directed to fix the wire NO They should be SACKED immediately.

but i'm sure a gift basket will make it all better.

Well we wouldn't him losing face now would we.

He's family too, so an impossible task to say he's done a poor job which needs to be re-done.

 

Time for suing the local government.

Where indeed is the third, ground, wire.

This is an inside cable, no armoring

No RCBO controlling it.

How can you install like this? TIT, mai pen rai
