Seddon clergyman Pastor Duffy says a Bangkok agency promises 40 hours a week, $2,500 a month in the hand, free accomodation, free transport and free food.

"They're working over 15 hours a day with little lights on their heads in freezing cold at night-time just to try and pay the money back they owe in Thailand," says Duffy.

And Duffy says allegations of standover tactics and even human trafficking could damage the image of New Zealand's glittering wine industry beyond repair.

"They're very close to killing the goose that lays the golden egg," he says.

I thought alot of the Cook islanders were doing this work.I know that a few years ago Thailand and NZ had a visa agreemnet which meant that we could stay in Thailand 90 days without a visa then all the thai prostitutes took advantage of it as the agreement was recipercol so NZ government quashed it.I got caught with unintentional 2 month overtsay.

Anyway why would they go through a work agency no one else does?
