Mid Posted June 25, 2007 Share Posted June 25, 2007 Malaysian police detain Thai cop for human trafficking charges June 25, 2007 : Last updated 10:42 am (Thai local time) Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian authorities have detained a Thai police officer for suspected human trafficking after two Burmese nationals were found in his car boot during a check at the northern Malaysian border, reports said Monday.The 34-year-old man, who was dressed in full police uniform, was stopped by Malaysian police on Sunday as he was driving through the express lane at the border, said northern Kedah state police chief Syed Ismail Syed Azizan. Border cops found two women, aged 35 and 45, hidden in the car boot of the suspect. Both women are believed to be Myanmar nationals. "They did not have proper travel documents," Syed Ismail was quoted as saying by the Star daily. He said police also seized a pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition found inside the glove compartment. Syed Ismail said the arrest was probably the first case where a Thai police officer in full uniform was caught for suspected human trafficking. That chocolate brown uniform and shiny badge obviously don't carry the same currency over the border and the Malays rightly concluded something nasty enough to reside in the false bottom of Pandora's box was hiding behind a cloak of legitimacy. Yes, penalty severe for unregistered firearms. I imagine this sort of "sponsored" traffficing goes on plenty inside Thailand. I know several cases of "recruiters" who take ladies to Malaysia to work in the "entertainmant" industry. Surprising the guy was so bold & careless. Bit like 2nd hand Toyota cars....... if to old for Japan, they get moved out here, once too old for Thailand, they go to countries like Nepal.......
