Football - Barcelona recorded a profit of 98m Euros for the last financial year and expect to make a 275m Euros profit next year, the club has announced. This summer the Spanish club were unable to register new players because of La Liga financial regulations having made a loss of 482m Euro the previous year.

 

South Africa will bid to stage the 2027 Fifa Women's World Cup, hoping to bring the event to Africa for the first time. South Africa was the first - and so far only - country on the continent to host the men's World Cup, in 2010. In July.

 

It also became African champions for the first time after beating hosts Morocco in the final of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat.

 

F1 - Fernando Alonso will be "challenging" for Aston Martin when he joins them next year, says team boss Mike Krack.The two-time champion is joining Aston Martin from Alpine, who would not offer him the terms he wanted to stay on.

 

Alonso is a legendary figure in Formula 1, and at 41 is still regarded as one of the sport's finest drivers and a record 24-race calendar has been confirmed by F1's  governing body for the 2023 season.

 

The new race in Las Vegas and the return of Qatar and China makes next year the longest ever season despite the loss of the French Grand Prix. The season itself begins in Bahrain on 5 March and ends in Abu Dhabi on 26 November.
