Police and immigration officers raided a townhouse in Pattaya and arrested 16 Chinese nationals suspected of providing an illicit online money lending service.

The group had been in Thailand for 6 months on tourist visas and regularly moved address to avoid detection.

Financial clients were in Hong Kong worth hundreds of millions of hk dollars and charged interest rates at around 50%. 

The group will likely be handed over to authorities in Hong Kong.

 

The Lawyers council is taking legal action against a man who set up a fake legal office in Kamphaeng Phet, the former roast chicken seller is accused of working without a license.

The case came to light after a female client filed a complaint, the man could face 7 years in jail and a fine of 140 thousand baht.

Pattani Police arrested two men in possession of 110 kilograms of heroin being smuggled to Malaysia, a pickup refused to stop at a checkpoint and was chased and eventually stopped. Officers seized the drugs which could have fetched around 300 million baht in Malaysia.
