Lake Mead water crisis is exposing volcanic rock from eruptions 12 million years ago

Lake Mead’s falling water level has exposed several shocking things in recent months – previously sunken boats, old war ships and human remains. Now scientists are reporting a new discovery on Lake Mead’s dry bed: rocks laced with volcanic ash that rained down on southern Nevada during explosive eruptions roughly 12 million years ago.

The record-low water levels are exposing sedimentary rocks that haven’t been seen since the 1930s when the Hoover Dam was built and Lake Mead filled. Among these rocks, researchers with the University of Nevada in Las Vegas found ash deposits from volcanoes in Idaho, Wyoming and California.

Looks like Southern California is in for a drought, and perhaps lack of electricity as well.

Your comment is strangely focussed on southern California.  FYI,  Southern California is not in for a drought. It's in the middle of one. But actually the drought is far worse in the Southwest where Lake Mead is actually located.  It's being called a Megadrought. Worse than any drought for the last 1000+ years. And as for electricity, you'll be saddened to learn that Lake Mead also supplies Arizona, Nevada, and parts of Mexico with electricity. Sp, perhaps a lack of electricity there as well.

Does Lake Mead supply California with water?

Lake Mead, which gets its water from the Colorado River, is a very important source of water for Southern California.25/07/2022

Perhaps time to build solar powered desalination plants along the Californian coast. Proven technology, so just needs political will and money.

Riyadh in Saudi is supplied with it's water by pipes from desalination plants on the coast.

As I pointed out, your article is strangely focussed on California. and you  are still strangely focussed on California. Why not take your inquiries a step further and find out what other states Lake Mead might be supplying water to?
