City officials used expandable, water-filled flood barriers, instead of sand bags, in an attempt to prevent overflows from the Chao Phraya River from flooding Rama III Road in Yan Nawa District yesterday (Thursday).

Apart from overflows during high tides, water has been leaking out of a sink hole and through many fissures at a condominium construction site on Rama III Road, said officials.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Wisanu Subsompon and officials of the Department of Drainage and Sewerage of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration inspected the scene yesterday and ordered more sand bags to prevent water from flowing from these fissures and the sink hole.

So they used these new fangled barriers (far better than those old sand bags), then discovered more seepage so ordered more old sand bags. Hmmmm

If the sandbags were filled properly, laid properly and compacted properly barriers would be more effective and durable.
