"appreciate any pointers".

An internet search.  No one knows what you want to rent or where you want to rent it from, a couple of rather important factors when asking for the cost.

In 2011, I rented a Toyota Vios from Avis in Bangkok. Car was mostly new and in well kept condition. I think I paid 800 baht/day that included some basic insurance. I opted for no-charge insurance (as long as you are in possession of the car key) and paid an extra 100/day. That west ages ago. New rates must be higher unless an old used car in Pattay that one can rent for 1000 baht now. A relatively new midsize car (like Honda Accord, Altis) will be around 2K/month I think now.

I rent cars here quite a lot. I currently have something longer term with Fatboy's,

but I also had a good experience with

https://www.chiccarrent.com Chic are more expensive but they usually have good offers in the first few days of the month

https://www.bizcarrental.com/ were recommended to me, but I haven't used them yet
