Study shows about 15 percent of Thai students are prone to suicide

About 15% of Thai high school students are at risk of suicide, according to findings from the Bureau of Mental Health Service Administration.

The department has recently completed an assessment of the mental health of more than 130,000 students aged under 18. The findings show 56.31% are “normal”, 9.18% are listed as vulnerable to depression and 15.86% are prone to harming themselves or committing suicide.

Dr. Dusadee Juengsirakulwit, a director of the department, explained that the main cause of the students’ mental health problems is that they worry about their studies and could not adapt to studying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to known problems such as bullying by classmates and conflicts with the elders in their families.

well these so called eduated kids are staging battles on the streets instead of leading by example and getting educated - do they really have a death wish - seems to me they need to realise that pitch battles on the streets of Thaialand is really not how university students should bwhave ......... maybe they really do want to die rather than be educateted.............................what a shame

you are now getting and official boot up the <deleted> - you are disgrace to Thailand ..........not much else to say - anything else would be wasted on these wasters - shame

Easy to mock when brought up in the West and Thai males can be especially fragile, but reckon the pressures are higher here. When you bring face and subservience to authority and elders into the mix, it makes those that are susceptible all the more likely to struggle.

And 15% may be prone to learning something... but the jury is still out

It is that requirement creating the other propensity?

Perhaps some of them are depressed because of the devastating consequences of human-caused climate change which is continuouslys promoted in the media. They have no hope for the future.

Maybe more of them should talk to each other person to person instead of looking at their smartphone all the time.

I'm not surprised.

Unrealistic expectations placed on them by social media.

Limited job prospects.

Bullying online and offline.

The expectation of financially supporting their parents.

No real social support system.

Ruled by an elite that treats them like trash.

Doomsday "green" cults telling them the world is about to end.

I'd be depressed as well.

Define normal...

The challenge for many of the kids is out of their control. They are told they can do anything. Parents set high standards by telling their friends how smart their kids are. The schools blow smoke up their rectum telling them they passed and fudging the numbers.  Then reality bites and they apply to top tier university and crash and burn.

Schools need to be honest also teach students skills. Cooking make up electronics carpentry automotive.

Give them a means of learning a trade or skill.

Jeg think that WHO , think it`s " Amazing " !.

Well this is bad for Thailand, but I also have to wonder what the percentage is in Japan?
