Diff rebuild

Hi there

 

I need to get a LSD diff rebuilt, I have the rebuild kit but have had difficulty finding a specialist. I can’t believe there isnt one somewhere in BKK. Does anyone know of one. Alternatively I wonder if  a gearbox rebuilder could do it? There seem to be more of these about.  It’s for an M3 I’m restoring.
 

if anyone could offer any input it would be appreciated.

I reckon you are going to need a Beemer specialist.

 

My step-son has used these guys in the past, not sure if they can do diffs but a call can't hurt.

 

If they can't I'll bet they know a man who can.

I remember driving round Bangkok with a mate looking for a replacement gearbox for his old Beemer.

There are these huge secondhand engine, diff., gearbox yards. All close together, but I can't remember in which outer suburb they are in.

I'm fairly sure they would know where someone is located.

The car doesn't have matching numbers, so the dealer won't touch it.

 

I have previously visited Lek Arm, but was put off by the total chaos. Mechanics squatting on a dirt floor surrounded by parts of the engine they were working on didn't inspire great confidence in me. But as the SpeedHunters article said, that is apparently typical of many Japanese workshops. They did have a Z4 that they had just dropped a V12 into, so obviously they have some skills. We spoke with his son, who speaks very good English at least. I asked about doing rod bearings on an S50B32 and he quoted upwards of 200K, which we thought pretty expensive. Went away wondering if that was the Farang price. 

 

I was there regarding a Vanos enquiry and didn't ask about a diff rebuild, so it may be worth returning and not being put off by the garages hyper disorganisation.

I think if you go in many or most (not dealer controlled) workshops you will find the same workplace where engines, gearboxes etc are assembled and disassembled on the floor or ground. No work benches. 

It's a bit off-putting at first, but you get used to it.

Biggest mistake I made years ago when I had a warped head redone was to ask them why they weren't using a torque wrench....then they stripped the threads. ????
