Lao VOA at Bo Y from Vietnam

Featured Replies

Is the Bo Y border crossing open to international (German) tourists and are VOA issued, at what cost/documentation? In particular I plan to leave Lao over land to Thailand, that means I have no proof of leaving.

How to I get from Nha Trang to Bo Y, and how to continue to next town in Lao by public transport?

Hi,

I just found this post now. This must be too late for you

but I do hope that it helps tourists who are thinking of

travelling this route in the future. The info I'm going to

give you now is a bit old, so please double-check it.

As for Bo-Y border, it's open to the international

tourists, too, but I'm not sure about the visa stuff

because I don't need one to enter VN or Laos.

As for how to get to the border from Nha Trang, there

were buses to Pleiku (or 'Gia Lai' as locals call) and

onto Kon Tum, where you could change all the way

to Pakse in Laos. (I'm pretty sure you'd have to

spend a night in either of those 2 VN towns.)

I read some post, reporting that there are lots of buses

going to the border for a visa run now so there might

be direct buses from Nha Trang. I'm not sure. It's

a long way (more than 400km) and could take 10hrs

each way, though.

The last town in VN before the border is 'Ngọc Hồi'

and the first town in Laos after that is 'Attapeu.'

I have taken a local bus to the border from Kon Tum

and another one from Attapeu to Ngọc Hồi once

before.

Hope that helps.
