Cap: Following the money

Investigations into an alleged gambling operator who bought a fancy Thai registration plate continued yesterday.

Thaenthai Narongkul paid 45 million baht for 9กก9999 after winning a lottery.

RTP chief General Damrongsak Kittipraphat said that a dossier on the activities of this man was being prepared for the public prosecutor.

It would be up to them whether to take the matter to court.

The police are looking at the flow of a considerable amount of money after assets were seized in the gambling side of the case, reported Daily News

Dept Collects B179m from Auction of Auspicious License Plate Numbers

BANGKOK, Dec 14 (TNA) – The Land Transport Department raised 179 million baht for the government’s road safety fund from its recent auction of auspicious numbers of vehicle license plates. It also promised to support authorities’ examination of bidders.

Seksom Akraphand, deputy director-general of the department, said people were highly interested in the auction of 301 auspicious license plate numbers for passenger cars on Dec 10 and 11.

On the occasion, the “9 Kor Kor 9999” number drew 202 bids and its auction ended with the price of 45.09 million baht.

The department was aware of an allegation from the “Sai Mai Will Survive” group that owners of gambling websites were collecting auspicious license plate numbers instead of cash. The group asked the police and the Anti-Money Laundering Office to check the financial transactions of bidders.

What is special about the number?

Plates Instead of cash.  I don't understand.  Did some guy in debt buy the plates for someone else to payoff debt.    They call this an auction and they used the term lottery.   It really is hard to get the details that make a news story complete in Thailand.

I wonder how much will end up being used for road safety. If the statistics are anything to go by I would hazard a guess at around 32 Satang, the rest will go towards...............well, no need to say really.

road safety fund

Is there such a critter as road safety and if there is how much of these proceeds actually make it to the start line? Is it a road safety fund or a slush fund?
I don’t see much in the way of road safety initiatives that would need this much funding

Sickens me to see the super rich willing to whiz away millions and millions on useless trinkets or pay millions to politicians to save on tax dollars but they are often the very last people in society to give a dollar to charity or give to help society in any way.

Hang the rich!!!

Put the bong down now.

Take a deep breath and slowly exhale.

That was not what I wrote or intended to convey. You're overthinking,
