Police raided what they called an illegal nightclub that was open past the legal time of 2:00 A.M. in Pattaya.

A team from the Banglamung District Office and the Pattaya City Police raided ‘169 Club’ at 3:06 A.M. early this morning (December 15th).

More than 100 nightclub goers were found enjoying music and drinking alcohol. Officers ordered to turn off the music. A nightclub manager whose name was not given to the press was unable to present a legal license for the nightclub.

I bet there are many of these illegal clubs out there.  What else but probably people taking, possessing, selling drugs.

Or just people having a drink and having fun, just because the guy doesn't have a license, does not equate to it must be selling illegal drugs or full or druggies.

You can get drugs in any bar or legal nightclub in any town in any country.

Perfectly normal at 3am in many parts of the world. It must be very strange for tourists to come to a country to relax and have fun and find they can enjoy themselves more easily at home. Of course, Thais would have no idea what happens elsewhere and how the country compares unfavourably.

Not my thing as I'm an old fart. But most people are not and they enjoy partying into the small hours. Preferably without being raided by the police who ignore far more serious problems. Turning off the music is easy isn't it, and it doesn't stretch their ability as investigating real crimes does.

Obviously the penalties for violating laws and regulations are not severe enough. These entertainment venues don't care and will open the next evening again.

I think there are many people who like to wake up at 6pm and party till 5am.   Not me.  In all my youth and single years in the 80's in Denver and Dallas 2am was the legal time and that was late enough  for me.

Looks like plod have run out of real criminals to chase until 10,000 Russians have gone missing from arrivals ????

The question is what people are this. There is no weekend. Don't they have to work or go to school? Obviously this first class entertainment venue (see picture) is for Thais.

Quote from the linked article - "This was only the latest in near daily raids on bars and clubs in the Pattaya area. Pattaya police stated they feel these raids make tourists feel safe and secure. A prime focus has been the 2 AM legal closure time in Pattaya."

Safe and secure? Huh? If I was a tourist here it would make me feel the opposite, more like scared (of a fine or night of incarceration), intimidated, perplexed, annoyed, but also somewhat amused. I don't recall any of this kind of nonsense from the fuzz prior to Covid, but here we are years later with supposedly the country fully open and no real restrictions but Mr Plod has got nothing better to do. Queue the comments "they are enforcing the law", yeah, whatever, but it's very selective. It's not hard to find somewhere to party until whatever time in Patts should you desire to, so this harassment is probably a function of the missing or underfunded brown envelope.

Quite! It seems the police are making up for lost time, as it were? How many brown envelopes were 'lost' during Covid, nobody can say, but they need to make up for the shortfall?

Yet another illegal nightclub...

Amazing Thaialand.

Where is Club 169? In a tourist area? Do any tourists feel safer?

It is in the middle of nowhere. No tourist area.

Strange that when the monthly rent collectors come visit they never check the paperwork?

If Thailand had a police force that 'served and protected' its citizens by rubbing out dangerous drivers instead of feathering their own police stations, I suggest fatal accidents would decrease significantly.  Speed is the major common cause of fatalities and surely the easiest to spot and eradicate?

He was wrong, not giving brown envelopes to the right people... ????
