Bangkok’s light traffic and quiet roads over the last couple of days will begin to return to the normal congestion today (Monday), as New Year revellers return in droves, making it slow going on several highways.

According to the state-run Transport Company, between 50,000 and 60,000 passengers are expected to arrive at its main bus terminals in Bangkok today, with many having started their journeys last night.

Traffic congestion on the Asian highway, from Ayutthaya to Bangkok, was reported to extend up to ten kilometres this morning. All lanes were clogged with cars and buses, as they inched their way towards the Bang Pa-in elevated section, connecting with Phahonyothin Road and the motorway.

Ouch, and glad I decided to stay here at the house in HH/PKK and not head to the condo until next week.

Do you get the hoards of Thai visitors in HH for the New Year? I know my wife's brother and family went  there. If not for traffic I always assumed it might be a better option than remaining in Pattaya which is just crazy busy ....

In HH proper they did, out here south of town where we live, about 15km south, it was great. We drove out to the beach at Khao Takiab beach where we could see the fireworks back in HH. Other than that it was nice. The traffic up on Hwy 4 was busy as we headed south afterwards as well as during the day  yesterday and it's already starting this morning as people leave from south of us and drive into HH to return to BKK.

The Train would have been the ticket for some, but then it is slow.  Here's a station not far from us. Not many use this Station. It is new.

We went to Hua Hin for xmas.  The trip back was okay until we hit Rama 2.  Then it was deadlocked.  Took around an hour to travel 1.5 k.  Then again this might be normal for Rama 2.

It is some years since I had a break there in HH... IIRC it was near Xmas and the place was packed with Scandewegians. Not a chance of getting to sleep before 2am!
