A PHEU THAI Party committee member today (Jan 10) urged the government to separate Chinese medical tourists from those who are coming here for a holiday after China reopened its borders on Sunday and Chinese travellers have again started flocking in, Sanook.com said.

 

Mr. Worawat Auapinyakul, a member of the party’s Strategy and Political Direction Committee, said while it is true a large number of Chinese arrivals are leisure tourists, however among them are also those seeking medical help here because China’s Covid treatment system is said to be unable to support the number of patients.

 

The Thai economy is now slowly beginning to improve therefore care must be taken to prevent another Covid outbreak from sweeping in, he cautioned.

I doubt Anutin would do that. It takes balls to stand up against CCP add He ain't the one. Also scanning chinese would achieve anything significant when variant is already here.

So, now actively encouraging people with covid to enter the country. Genius.

That's kinda worrying, infected tourists coming in for treatment... ?

An attempt to keep Covid out has been made and very quickly stomped all over and rescinded.... now someone admits the Chinese are going to be bringing it in and suggests separating them out on arrival, after infecting the whole plane. You couldn't make it up!

I'm not a big fan of them Chinese coming to Thailand now, but If they decided not to ask Chinese travelers for vax proofs, they should not separate them now either, it will look bad and degrading and impossible to implement...

if somebody is in need of medical  help for covid, he wouldn't have time to buy airfare, travel to an airport and on the flight and checking into thai hospital, with temperature above 39C, shortness of breath and many other symptoms, which can also be serious. That would take them some 24h. 

Some of them would also risk suffocating on airplane, as oxygen levels are low. That's why newborn and people with lung problems can't travel. I have seen people faiting on airplanes and given emergency oxygen - and  they were, apparently, young and healthy.

Yes, there might be those medical tourists at the early stages of infection, shortly after testing positive, with little symptoms, who would travel to escape China health crisis. Nothing can stop them at this stage, unless pre-departure testing is introduced

If the pandemic is not much worse than a normal flu as it is always being said, what are we worrying about? We have all had a dose of the flu.

I'd be more careful about those that come and plan on not leaving for a long, long time, if ever, and just setting up shop as they please. There is a big enough Chinese social and cultural infrastructure in place for them to conceal their nationality and simply begin to take over everything.
