BANGKOK (NNT) - Essential goods and commodities are expected to continue seeing high manufacturing costs this year. Commercial affairs officials are asking manufacturers to maintain fair prices, in order to mitigate the cost of living crisis faced by the general public.

 

The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) said it had asked manufacturers in the country to help maintain the current prices of their goods, in an effort to help alleviate the cost of living crisis.

 

The manufacturing sector will continue to be impacted by high prices of raw materials and energy, driving up the overall manufacturing cost.

 

DIT Director General Wattanasak Sur-iam said the department has implemented the Win-Win model that aims to ensure both the manufacturers and the consumers will be least affected.

 

He said the department has been considering price increase requests from manufacturers, in order to ensure appropriate pricing that reflects the actual cost. The DIT is closely monitoring goods prices daily to prevent possible gouging. Prices of fresh groceries such as meat, vegetables, and bottled palm oil saw a decline in the previous week, except for a slight price bump for eggs. Prices of other grocery items such as canned sardine, soy sauce, and fish sauce have been stable.

 

Mr. Wattanasak said the department has received good cooperation from manufacturers in maintaining the current level of retail prices through cost-cutting measures. The DIT will also be conducting random inspections at retail outlets more frequently this year.

The last year I've seen nothing but increasing prices across the board.

Isn't this months electricity bill expected to include a rise... that will have a knock on effect.

I am wondering that local beer prices didn't increase so far. But perhaps this is the just around the corner. Other things went up by at least 20 to 30 percent (until now...). Some products even increased 100 percent or more. Good that Thailand has only an inflation rate of about 6 percent ????????????. But they play the same game in Western countries....

Based on what I'm seeing in the supermarkets I'm thinking that six is missing a leading one.

And those prices are  continuing to increase.

A recent trip to Pattaya saw another 10 % increase in many food items in a large Supermarket.

Inflation ? or simply price Gouging off the back of tourist influxes during the "high season ".

Increasing prices all year but surprisingly (not) a lot of these big companies have made record profits for 2022. They are bleeding the ordinary citizens dry and blaming covid and the Ukrainian/Russian conflict in order to raise consumer prices. The government does nothing about it because the government gets a windfall tax revenue bonus from the extra sales prices and company profits.

You can raise the wages because of the inflation. But this will cause more inflation and you will have to raise the wages again. But this again will cause more inflation and....

In this mysterious land any adverse fiscal news only serves to strengthen the Baht as my pound evaporates ????
