The House committee tasked with examining the feasibility of establishing entertainment complexes, including legal casinos, will convene to discuss the matter and seek approval from the Cabinet today, January 12th.

 

The Thai government has been eying to gain tax revenues from legalizing gambling businesses, including legal casinos, since last year, Thai media reported. The special House committee has been set up to study the feasibility of opening legal casinos reportedly in the following locations:

 

• Bangkok and areas within a 100-kilometer radius of Suvarnabhumi and U-Tapao airports
• Areas within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC)
• 22 tourism provinces
• Provinces with immigration checkpoints such as Phuket, Phang-Nga, Krabi, Chiang Mai, or Chaing Rai

This should be done years ago, this can actually increase number of tourist.

The country has huge loans to pay, this will help the burden faster than wait for their dream of 80 million tourist in 2026 or whenever.

 

If these casino's become for foreigners only, it would save many Thais from loosing all they have.

Deal with it for goodness' sake. I can't stand this will we/won't we about casinos. There is no issue....allow casinos for 3 years and if there are people harmed by gambling, close them all down.

The Singapore model seems to be working OK.

 

I suppose the Thai government have looked at the way Singapore introduced casinos and how they operate successfully
