Daily News Thai Caption; Paramotor falls

 

Daily News reported that a building contractor from Myanmar died after getting a paramotor banking maneuver wrong in high winds in Pathum Thani.

 

Pol Capt Udomkiat Majaeng attended the scene with Poh Teck Tung rescue services on multi-purpose ground belonging to the local municipality in Ban Chang sub-distrct.

 

In a grassy area comprising many rai they found Win Niang, 48, and a 300cc paramotor on the ground.

 

His wife Mira was in tears after paramedics had failed to save him. He had been unconscious and after they had removed his helmet had noticed blood coming from his eye.

 

He also had a broken leg.

His wife said that he was a keen paramotor enthusiast and had done many circuits. This was the last one before they were due to go home yesterday evening.

 

She noted there had been high winds.

 

Friends said he was 30 meters up when he appeared to get a banking move wrong and plunged headfirst to earth.

 

His body was taken to Thammasat Chalermprakiat Hospital for autopsy.

Para-motors look benign but like with all flying things, one little mistake can be costly.  I was on my balcony a few nights ago and noticed a bunch of low clouds moving across the skyline.  They were moving surprisingly fast even though it was not windy at all where I sat.  It made me realize how fast upper level wind can be, even not that high-up.

They run para-sails off Jomtien beach.  One guy in the air hanging from a 'chute, one guy driving the boat; no spotter.  Looks like an accident waiting to happen. Mai phen lai.
