Looking For Ideas - An Island Holiday Maybe ?

Featured Replies

In 6 years of visiting Thailand, I've been to Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Issan. I'm coming back for a fortnight in October this year and I would like to try something a bit different.

My new partner is into water-sports (snorkling and scuba diving). Rather than just have a fortnight in Bangkok with him, I'd like to try spending some time on the coast or even an island.

I'm thinking of a few days each in Ko Samui and Krabi.

Any suggestions as to itinerary or places to stay welcomed. The above two places are not fixed, just suggestions. We are not into nightlife - somewhere quiet and reasonably priced is preferred.

If you only have 2 weeks I wouldn't waste any time transiting between coasts. Koh Samui is a very-developed East Coast tourist island. Krabi is a quite-developed West Coast tourist area. If you stay on the Andaman coast, why not combine Krabi with a nearby less-developed island like Koh Jum or Koh Yao Noi? We spent some time on Koh Jum in March and felt like we'd landed in paradise. Here are some links to get you started: Andaman Island Hopping, Koh Jum Online, Your Krabi.

well, then forget SAMUI immidiately and book your 99 Baht -flight with AirAsia to Krabi :o

Why not try Koh Lanta? October is nearing the end of their low season or entering the high season so the weather should be relatively good then. Also your partner can do some scuba diving from there. Some of Thailands nicest dive sites are located close by. eg. Hin Daeng/Hin Muang (Red and Purple rocks)

There's plenty of reasonably priced quiet places to stay on Samui.. Anyway I'd recommend as you say krabi, 2 weeks should be about right if include koh lanta, koh jum, au nang, hat railay, koh poda and not to forget koh phi phi. If you decide on visiting phi phi which you should as its magnificant, a good option for a beach to stay is hat yao (long beach) which is away from the developed ton sai area but close enough if you fancy a night out. There is great snokeling straight off hat yai, and I can recommend Phi Phi Hill Resort for large bungalows with excellent views over ton sai bay and phi phi lay. I have to mention the steps here though as there is 200 or so but if you have no waking difficulties and take your time it's not too bad.

Would like to recommed Koh Samui (Meanam Beach)over looking Koh Phangan, then from there you can go Koh Tao which is rated up there in World best Dive sites. A must island to visit is KoH Nangyuan , with just one hotel on island and after 3:30 in the afternoon all tour boats are gone and you have the island to yourselfs.
