Pathum Thani – An illegal meatball factory in Pathum Thani was raided after delivering food to 41 places in Bangkok and nearby areas including an international school.

Friday, (February 17th), officers from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) raided a meatball factory in the Klong Luang district.

The Commander of the FDA, Major General Anan Nanasombat, told TPN media that a man identified only as Mr. Sarit was presented as the factory owner. Officers seized 30 bags of meatballs and 12 kilograms of Sodium Benzoate (Preservatives).

I wonder why people comment without reading the linked article. It really doesn't take very long.
Mr. Sarit admitted to the FDA that they sent the meatballs to 41 fresh markets in Bangkok and nearby provinces and have been selling the meatballs for two years.

Easy mistake to make with the page layout they use now.

Additional information from the link:

"The meatballs were being advertised as made of 100 percent pork which is not true because it is mixed with chicken meat to decrease the cost of production......................................the meatballs are also contaminated with Borax" (this is Sodium tetraborate and different from Sodium benzoate)

I can't believe Thai people including my wife eats those.   Hot dogs are as low as I go. And about every 5 years I eat one.

This type of product is sold by street vendors.

To be honest?  Outfits like this that got raided are probably the tip of the iceberg.
If you ever eat "luuk chin" meatball they always have a consistency that doesn't resemble meat.  My wife likes them but I tend to stay away from them.
If I roll pork into a meatball, it looks like ground pork, it smells like ground pork when cooked, and it tastes like ground pork.  My experience with 100% pork "luuk chin" meatballs is that they are tasteless and have the consistency of rubber.

Lessons learned:  Make your own meatballs.  Then you know what is in them.
