BANGKOK, May 2 (TNA) – The Election Commission (EC) has opened the anti-fake news center ahead of national polls slated for May 14.

Election commissioners Pakorn Mahannop and Thitichet Nuchnart told a news conference that the newly-established center will gather information that tarnishes the image of the EC and its officials and will clarify the operation of the EC to create understanding and confidence among the public.

Thitichet said the center would scrutinize the content and provide facts to counter fake news which also emerged during the election four years ago and damaged trust in the EC.

Be interesting to audit this outfit after the election to see if they acted impartially or instead attempted to put their finger on the scales.

They are the totally owned tool of the established powers that be.

Control of the EC is central to "project Prayut".

This is building up to something later... maybe covering their backs now before for the questionable result later.

Any government setting up a "ministry of truth" is a major warning sign. AUthoritarian and fascist regimes worldwide would salivate at the thought of absolutely controlling propaganda to keep the citizens uninformed and in awe of how amazing their government is.

In Thailand's case I would guess modernizing the defamation laws so that factually true claims can not be sued would be the way forward to legitimizing medias credibility.

The ECs image along with the NACC etc is already tarnished and are the biggest fake organisations in the land.

There used to be one for RTP but it closed down through overuse.

The Election Commission happily endorsed the unelected coup makers to form a government and provided ratification and legal counsel.

They truly clarified their operation and removed any misconceptions regarding their mandate.

...and they missed the irony completely.

Actually many governments do, or the outsource it to private NGOs that do 100% what they are told to do. I don't know why it should be fascist only and not communist or any other authoritarian style.
