Attorneys for E. Jean Carroll and Donald Trump rested their respective cases in the battery and defamation trial against the former president in Manhattan federal court on Thursday evening.

Carroll, a former magazine columnist, alleges Trump raped her in the Bergdorf Goodman department store in the mid-1990s and then defamed her when he denied her claim, said she wasn’t his type and suggested she made up the story to boost sales of her book. Trump has denied all wrongdoing.

While resting his case means Trump legally waived his right to testify in his own defense, District Judge Lewis Kaplan left a window for Trump to change his mind over the weekend.

I can't see his lawyers having him testify. Mr. Tacopino seems totally crazy, but not THAT crazy. I'd quit before calling him as a defense witness.

He'll channel Humphrey Bogart/Caine Mutiny and Jack Nichlson/A Few Good Men, and end up incriminating himself, by admitting to other frequent misdeeds.

Trump did have this to say about how well his Trial is going and why he took a trip to Ireland instead of attending. Wondr who is feeding him the news that his trial is going very well.

“We’ve had a long-standing agreement to come here. We’ve had a tremendous reception, a beautiful reception,” Trump said, according to Sky News.

Trump did not sound terribly concerned about the court proceedings back in New York, even though a reporter asked him if he thought it was disrespectful that he chose not to attend the trial.

“The people of Ireland have been great, and we’ve had tremendous success, and I hear we’re doing very well in New York,” Trump said.
