Perhaps I am partial to lady dentists, as I haven't seen one male dentist at Grace so far, but there are a couple listed on their staff list.

I was told by a Thai female dentist that around 80% of dentists in Thailand are women.

I've never used Grace, as I am put off by their prices and the hi-so waiting room. I've successfully used three others (one by the Somphet Market whose name I don't recall, the dental hospital and Kitcha), of which my favourite is Kitcha. Two of the dentists at Kitcha are on the CMU dentistry faculty.

I've taken three or four visiting farang friends to Grace, however, as I felt the farang-oriented atmosphere would put them at ease, which it did. I think they were completely satisfied with the service but at least one was not very happy with the prices.

Still I reckon Grace is the one to choose if it fits your budget and you don't speak Thai.

Grace is good. Its the Ram of dental clinics, ie expensive, with trim girls at reception and other niceties. A good touch is that they call you to remind you of your appointment. My treatment, which included an extraction after a very solid briefing as to alternatives by Dr. Korakot, was painless and efficient — this after an all-round X-ray checking out root canals done by a slew of previous dentists. Heck, if its my mouth they are playing with I want as good as I can afford.

If you want something a bit cheaper, but which also seemed reasonable, one place to try is Ban For Fan Mon-Fri 17:00-20:00, Sat & Sun 08:30-17:00 tel 05381 4163. The clinic is run by a husband/wife team, appointment essential. Expect a root canal to take two or three sessions. Can't remember price, but cheaper than Grace - service seemed competent. Located in row-houses about 50m to west of Chiang Mai Gate on north side inner moat road.

Hey, it's all relative....money-wise that is.

Ya wanna save money, I've got just the guy for you:

Personally, I find Grace fast, spotless, efficient- and maybe 20% more expensive than other (lesser) places friends of mine patronise. And they are still a fraction of the cost of a US dentist.... :o

If I was still a teacher, I might take the cheapest option, but as I am doing fairly well, 20% above the normal Thai rate for THE BEST sounds pretty good to me.

I just finished a root canal with the Dental Clinic at Ram Hospital and was very satisfied. The main reason that I am hesitant to try Grace is that Ram is so easy to get to for me and I like them anyway.

Out of interest how much is it for just a regular checj-up and teeth clean (not teeth whitening) at the Grace clinic and the other husband and wife dentist people mentioned?

Thanks

I found Grace very expensive and recommending unnessary treatments. I went in for a routine cleaning and looking into tooth whitetining (sp) and the lady told me I needed gum surgery. I was very concerned so when I got back to the U.S. I went to see my dentist who informed me my gums were fine. I must have dumba$$ writtrn all over my face

Thats what they recommended to me. This was gum transplant surgery - totally and utterly unnecessary - total of the unnessary treatment was 70,000 baht. Grace is a money cow unfortuneately. :o

I kept reading here about how Grace does great work for most procedures but overcharges for cleanings. With that in mind, I've had my teeth cleaned by 6 different dentists in CM. They charged between 400 and 600 Baht. None of them spent more than 12 minutes cleaning my teeth. Two of them told me I had cavities that needed filling (different teeth). I went back to Grace and my dentist in the US. Both told me that I had no cavities. finally, I decided to get my teeth cleaned at Grace. They did a very thorough job, spending about 40 minutes. The cost was either 800 or 1,000 baht. Well worth the extra cost.

I've had lots of other procedures done at Grace too -- extractions, root canal, oral surgery. My dentist in the US has seen the work and has said it looks perfect. They've never recommended any work that wasn't absolutely necessary.

I can probably find cheaper dentists in CM, but this is the only set of teeth I'm going to have so I don't mind paying a little extra to have the best dentists work on them.

I just had a filling redone at my usual dentist. It cost 600 baht, plust 100 baht for a painkiller shot which I opted for but perhaps wasn't very necessary. It involved removing remnants of the old filling, and then doing it again.

How much would something like that have been at Grace?

And how much for a crown? (might need one eventually).

Tip: General check-up, tartar removal etc is best done at the private clinic opposite Wat Suan Dok. Cheapest anyway, and very good.

I had a porcelain crown done at Grace in 2005. Excellent work, and incredibly fast, because they have a computerized manufacturing facility. They took the mold in the morning and I went back and got the crown fitted later that same day. I don't remember the dentist's name, but she was good, asked and answered questions, put me at ease. I think 15K all in. Exchange rates were better then. I had the same job priced at the dental hospital on the Superhighway, and it came to about 11-12K, without the quick service, which I wanted because I was about to go out of town.

Wow - you did this purely in the name of research ? You must have a super-sparkling smile by now :o !

What on earth is a "gum transplant" ? ?

I go there Dr.Korakot is a cutie isn't She, speaks English & French perfecty and has a smile to die for :o

I happily pay a little more than I may do elsewhere for that reason alone...I am smitten :D

and She has to be LOADED :D

I always wear my best shoes when I go there but they make me take them off :D

I wanna know where they get those flip flops they make you wear. I use a size 14 shoe and cannot find a flip flop my size, yet they have one there to fit me.

Additionally as a most happily married man, I must say I harbor a bit of lust toward the vivacious Dr. K :D

Understand where you are coming from UG......but what's Ram's policy if things go wrong?

Like will they fix their mistakes free of charge.?

I had many crowns fitted at Grace and one was not a perfect colour match.

Dr.K replaced it free of charge, and that would have been a hefty chunk of their profit gone, but a satisfied customer who will doubtless come again :o

Would Ram do the same.... ?

I have my doubts based on my personal experiences on the medical side of their business.

Yes, and yes I do now that Grace does my cleanings. That "research" was done over a 3 year period. How often do you get your teeth cleaned, Whywhy?

You are clearly far more systematic than I am. I go when I realize a visit must be due, or overdue. I have been going to the Dental Hospital, without problems, but I don't recall what I paid there.

I have been to Grace twice. Service is supurb and appointments one day after the other and in evenings too. Replaced all my lead amalgams with plastic, two cleanings, no problems. Crowns on my two top front teeth but one broke off 3 weeks later, their bkk friend glued it back for 1500 bt and it lasted a year and broke again. The other one lasted two months till I was back in the states and it broke off too. I have stubs only now till I get back to CM. It will be interesting to see what happens then and I will report here in October 2010.

Just the opposite of my experience where the dentist at Grace after having an implant told me my bone structure and gums were just fine. I've had several cleanings and a cap replaced and no one has suggested unnecessary work was needed

BTW gentlemen, back off Dr. Korakot, she's mine, all mine I tell you, go away, leave us be, I warn you.

Just joking, but she is a lovely and very nice lady that even my wife likes and trusts.

My wife's experiences with other Thai dentists has left her a firm believer and patron of Grace Dental.

I will be visiting CM soon for five weeks and I need a complete dental check up. Most certainly I need also 2 or 3 crowns in my front teeth. I will be staying at Nimmanhaemin so after reading a couple of threads about dental clinics in CM I had almost decided to go to Grace until I read the above post about the problems with broken crowns. I wonder if anyone else has experienced similar problems with this kind of treatments in Grace.

Is there any other dental clinic in CM which you could recommend particularly for tooth crowns? Thanks.

No doctor or dentist is perfect and one could have unforeseen problems anywhere. However, from everything I have heard, the chances of being satisfied at Grace and Ram and a couple of other places is much better than elsewhere. :)

Grace was recomended to me 8 years ago and their work and service was so good that I have recomended them to many of my visiting friends......porbably spending hundreds of thousands of thb in getting work done and so far ......not one complaint. All were impressed with the professionalism and quality of not only the dentists, but an organized falang friendly staff.

Yeah, they cost more than the butcher local dentists, but even at their relative [to local butcher dentist] prices they are 1/4th the cost of a dentist in the states and quality is as good or better.

They also get a big plus for their state of the art equipment.

I have had two recent good experiences at grace. the first one went in for an aching tooth and was pleased on how they idn't recommend any unnecesaary of guessing on their part. Ache went away...another place wanted to do a root canal and then a crown.what fraud! Bottom line I was please with this dentist's diagnostic abilities...

Second time i wnt in to get a cleaning. Pretty thorough as they used the old fashion scaping practice. More trying than the latest tech but probably better cleaning. I was charged 1,400B so thought that was a little expensive for CM since that is the same price in bkk with the latest tech toys..

I will use them again but I think so much depends on what individual dentist one gets as to competency. cognitive abilites and skill level...

No pain and still 30k in my shallow pockets..

Not all the local dentists are "butcher local dentists". There are some excellent dentists in C.M. that charge a fraction of what Grace charges. Many have "state of the art equipment"; not only Grace. Their prices are geared towards farang medical/dental tourism.

Right on. I've had some good work done at Grace and also seen some stunning incompetence and poor judgement. Depends on the dentist, of course.

I have since found other excellent clinics that are less expensive and more predictable because they have fewer people working on you.

BTW, 1/4 the price of the states? Where did you live that is 2-3 times more expensive than CA?

But for people who still believe "you get what you pay for", Grace will be happy to help you fell like you are getting the best available. rolleyes.gif
