Pattaya, Thailand-Pattaya City leaders are considering a recent proposal from the Redemptorist Foundation, which supports people with disabilities, to make Pattaya a so-called “Walking City”.

 

Redemptorist, which is a leading international organization for people with disabilities and has experience in providing education for people with disabilities, made the proposal at a City Hall meeting on June 13th, 2023.

 

In essence, the proposal would begin to move the central parts of Pattaya from a vehicle centric area to a walking centric area which would also have substantial support for people with disabilities.

As a person who is from an Irish Catholic background. I know for a fact that tbe redemptorists are a sect/faction of Catholic priests. To hear them being described as a Leading International Organisation is a puzzling description. I'm not saying they are bad, but call a spade a spade.

Bloody right, my ankle is still giving me grief after a twist I got from a bum pavement on Klang some weeks back. . We just had an article about making the road by Dongtan Beach two way traffic 24hr, and not long back the Beach vendors wanted parking to be allowed on the beach side of Beach Rd again....Pattaya City is far from a Walking City for the able bodied, and even attempting to could well put you in the ranks of the disabled. 

So for a few disabled people, and I  mean a few, they want to turn this ultra bustling place into a walking center? to read such a dumb proposal early in the morning enough to ruin your day.

They spelled deleted wrong....

Like this on Beach road?  I think this is the 3rd time they have dug it up in the past year or so just terrible planning and a waste.

 

It when happen when the Tram line is built down 2nd road. So, never!

Great idea. Make the city's increasing terrible traffic problem especially with all the buses even worse. Great way to increase tourism by making the traffic and congestion worse, the air quality worse! Good idea to have the geniuses that thought up the Thepprasit project to have them in charge of this new brain storm 555

   Start with Beach Road.  Eliminate the parking completely and expand the sidewalks on both sides with shade trees, not the cheap palms that are always used to replace shade trees that are removed. The added parking being done on the beach side is horrible--just to park a few more cars.

@ezzra What harm will it do you?  Are you like a lot of people and are too lazy too walk anywhere.

I don't know, isn't it's major appeal to the world based on it being a "shagging city"?

 

I can walk around plenty cities overseas, nothing unique about that these days.

yes, that's exactly the problem.

human beings are so used to their cars and motorbikes .... they have become too lazy to walk anymore. 

 

everyone has become ... comfortably numb.

Close streets to traffic? Freaking stupid!

I don't understand this stupid proposal.

 

All they need to do is fix all the pavements, and presto!  It's a walking city!
