In the soaring summer heat, a pile of old tires and plastics by the roadside mysteriously caught fire in Soi Kupara, Moo 3, Bang Pla Subdistrict, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province.

The local residents reported that the pile of tires has been there for quite some time, but no one knows its origin, reported 77kaoded.

At 14:30 on June 26, 2023, the officers from Bang Phli Police Station, Samut Prakan, were notified of the incident. After receiving the notification, they coordinated with over 10 nearby fire trucks from Bang Pla Subdistrict Municipality and neighboring areas to inspect the scene.

On arrival, the officers found the fire fiercely blazing, with large plumes of black smoke soaring into the sky, visible from a distance.

Multiple units worked together, spraying water to contain the fire to prevent it from spreading to adjacent areas, which were industrial plants.

However, the strong wind made controlling the fire difficult, and the tires and plastics provided excellent fuel for the fire. It took them over an hour to finally put out the fire.

Tires are not prone to self-ignition, as a tire must be heated to at least 400 degrees Celsius (750 degrees Fahrenheit) for a period of several minutes prior to ignition.

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_fire

It was arson.

What heatwave?

I live in Samutprakarn and our summer has not been hotter than other years, in fact, this summer has been wetter than many of the summers that I have seen here.

The last week has been fairly cool with the occasional stormy night, today is cloudy with the sun occasionally peeking through..

It's certainly not a heatwave, more likely sensationalizing the story to sell copy.

thai dump garbage wherever they can. tires don't magically catch on fire too. this is so laughable.

there is a road adjacent to highway 9(kanchanaphisek) between nakyon nayok exit and khlong luang. the entire roadside is a dump. probably a few kilometers long. regularly it is set on fire to get rid of the contents.

I never knew it could be so hot.. Dangerous to drive my car as the tires can get on fire.. Most probably someone made a fire that went out of control, instead of such a fairy story

No problem.  In a couple of months it will look the same as before.

Accidents do happen. About as likely as a pile of tires catching on fire from 38c heat.

The heading is incorrect,  old tyres do not ignite from the heat of the sun.  Someone threw some diesel and a lit match.

If you don't know, ask your wife. If you're God your son is JC.

Yes, there is no way that "the heat wave" caused rubber tire to ignite.
