Former House Speaker Chuan Leekpai has rushed to defend Prawit Wongsuwan, after he was seemingly pictured asleep in parliament, and not for the first time.

A viral photo appears to show the outgoing deputy PM, as famous for his watch collection as he is for his naps, having a snooze during the first parliamentary session of the incoming government earlier this week.

The session on Tuesday, July 4, was held to elect the new House Speaker, Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, leader of the Prachachat Party and two deputy speakers.

No surprise, Chuan defended his brother who embezzled billions from a Thai bank, fled the country and only returned after the statute of limitations expired.

Seems there is yet another confused person who can't read the full story.

About time someone put him down

Can you explain that?

I hope they were so kind and woke him up when all ended.

Why don't you do a simple internet search for yourself? Or is it beyond your capabilities.

Here is a starter from 30 years ago.

BANGKOK, Thailand -- Opposition legislators Tuesday were barred from questioning Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai about his fugitive brother, who is wanted by police on charges ofembezzling $8 million from a Thai bank.

House Speaker Marut Bunnag blocked an opposition motion that sought to determine why police have been unable to capture Chuan's younger brother, Raluek, four years after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Raluek Leekpai disappeared in 1989 after police issued a warrant for his arrest on charges he embezzled the equivalent of $8 million while working at the Thai Farmers Bank in the southern city of Songkhla. Some reports have said Raluek may have fled to the United States.

Police Director-General Gen. Sawat Amornwiwat Tuesday denied rumors that Chuan has instructed police investigators not to talk to the media about Raluek's case.

There is much more if you want to look for it.

Instead of just asking, do your own search work as most of us do.

There are more and different links for those who are interested and not too lazy to do their own searches.

That particular thread is some 30 years old.

I used to rspect Chuan and the Democrats back then.

I remember many years ago when I was an apprentice aircraft engineer, a snooze during lunch break was common practice, some even went out to their cars for the nap.

However one had to "clock-back-in" to restart work.

One apprentice didn't wake up and remained outside asleep.

Upon his absence being notice our instructor calmly said, "let him continue, while he's sleeping he still has a job" !!

What was the defence ????

Maybe they could send him to the White house crackhouse to wake him up ?

Seems Prawit defamed himself. Will he sue?

That makes about as much sense as a defunct pro-military Speaker defending a defunct PM Deputy.

He was an absolutely terrible deputy PM. Everything about this guy is subpar. His skills, his intelligence, his creativity, his policy. He was an utter failure and he helped move the nation backwards. Nothing to defend.

Do they not make watches that have optional "motion sensor alarms" on them? I'm sure at the price they go for, they should have!  Maybe one of the makers could market a "Prawit Special"?

Sad to think that Chuan was once respected as one of a very few honest politicians in Thaland.

Just shout "Grub up", he'll be awake in a flash.

When you're 150 years old you're allowed to take a nap now and then.

This is Thailands New PM

Not sure they set that bar too high!
