Community Wild Herd of Elephants Scatter Tourists Near Khao Khiao
Picture courtesy of Daily News. A herd of wild elephants from the ‘Mae Duan’ group, numbering around ten, startled a pair of tourists near Phat Tabak, Prathin Buri Province, a short distance before the Khao Khiao checkpoint, by suddenly breaking into a stampede. The two tourists, a man and a woman, abandoned their motorbike at the side of the road and fled into the forest in sheer panic. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan in a pickup truck arrived in the nick of time and rescued them from immediate danger . One of the tourists was a provincial reporter from Chaiyaphum, Mr Wirat Duangkaew, who had been travelling from Nakhon Nayok en route to Chaiyaphum. He was swiftly evacuated into the pickup before going back to retrieve their abandoned motorcycle. Amid the confusion, a minor incident occurred when the rescuing vehicle reversed in haste and bumped into a nearby car. The parties managed to reach an amicable resolution on the spot . After the tourists were safely removed a distance, the herd vanished back into the forest, bringing an end to the tension. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the encounter. This episode serves as a vivid reminder of the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters, even in areas frequented by visitors. Adapted by Asean Now from Daily News 2025-08-25 -
