Action sought over student council’s expletive laden political declaration

Thammasat University has been called upon to take action against a declaration by its Rangsit campus student council, which is full of expletives and hate speech.

The Thammasat University Student Council (TUSC)’s Rangsit campus recently published criticism concerning Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s failure to secure enough parliamentary votes to support his premiership candidacy.

The TUSC blamed the failure on the senators, who it described as “rubbish”, who refused to vote in favour of Pita or abstained.

The last two paragraphs were so riddled with expletives and hate speech that all media outlets covering the story have had to censor the contents.

You can only oppress a population for so long.

Eventually they'll realize that those in power will never, ever give it up. They will never play by the rules.

So they will have to stand up and take power for themselves.

That process may not be as respectful as everyone wants.

The old guard will not go silently.

The group condemned those who wrote the declaration who, while claiming to be promoters of democracy, are destroying democracy and insulting those who have different ideas.

The dinosaurs have already destroyed democracy.

There is nothing left for the young students to destroy.

A lot of anger has been building up for some over the last few years. 9 years all behaving nice and good. Then the Thais voted. The election result is known. A clear 2/3 majority for change emerged. And now that 2/3 majority is being blocked by a few unelected people. Then dissatisfaction quickly erupts. Understandable if someone supports the principle of democratically elected majorities.

Their statement shows disrespect to democracy? Poorly worded and smacks of immaturity, but what can one expect from teens these days?

Appointing 250 unelected buddies to block anything you don't like is democratic? I think not. General P appointing his buddies to the senate is a much more offensive and disrespectful action against democracy.

When the senators terms are finished next year, who appoints the next bunch?

If you look at the 2017 constution it tells you who is on the committies to elect the next senators and guess what its army generals  No civilians or  politicians.

The senators Should Not have an opinion there are there to serve the will of the people but that will not happen they are there to serve themselves,

Power in Thailand isn't given, it is taken. If Pita and the Pro-Democracy side want to govern, they need to start fighting back, and quickly. Political power is an ephemeral thing as it is rarely measured, The vast majority of time, political power exists simply because people think you have it. Conversely, if people don't think you have it, you don't have it.

MFP won a mandate to reform. Pheu Thai also won a mandate to reform.

If they don't deliver, they are toast.

And once in power, they rig the system to benefit themselves and their friends while throwing a few scrapes to the commoners, and then the new guard becomes just like the old guard.  And they hold on to power just as tenaciously.
In with the new boss, same as the old boss.  <--- Reality

It's a rare political system that works for the benefit of the country's citizens.  Pretty much as rare as hen's teeth.

Awww diddums, did those naughty students offend the establishment by using rude words!!!

These hypocrites are so thin skinned it is just unreal, do they have no shame?

Every time one of these junta shills open their mouth's I cringe they are so very, very weak and entitled that it boils my piss!

The sooner they are dragged out and punished the better but make no mistake they will need to be dragged out as they will never do the honourable thing...

I assume he meant that they would rise up, seize power, then immediately hand it to the democratically elected MPs and PM.  Not so bad in theory, but the problem is that it might not turn out like that.

I understand that the students are angry, but they're a student council and, presumably, want to become professionals, possibly even politicians, at some point, so swearing and insulting people is not appropriate.

If you were in the parliament building and started shouting and swearing, you would be asked to leave.  They should be able to make their point in a strong but dignified way (which they actually do up until the end).

I they want to form an activist group privately, sure, but they should follow good proper conduct when representing their university.

This is actually why ALL politicians should range in age of 40-65 only,  have atleast 15-20 years of work history behind them and also be limited to 2 terms of office only as an MP.

Its the jobs for life merry go round that keeps them there.

Calling the senators "rubbish"... I admire their moderation and restraint.

Might go along with the lower age limit.. but plenty of diplomacy and calm reasoning a little beyond 65.
