Twitter owner Elon Musk has said he wants to get rid of the Twitter bird logo, and replace it with an "X".

However, Mr Musk also has a history of making statements that fail to happen or are not serious.

Mr Musk, who has changed the name of the business to X Corp, said the replacement "should have been done a long time ago".

According to reports, the billionaire wants to create a "super app" called "X" which is similar to China's WeChat.

He said on Sunday he was looking to change Twitter's logo, tweeting: "And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds."

He then said that an interim logo would go live later the same day.

 

Mr Musk posted an image of a flickering "X" on Twitter, and later in a Twitter Spaces audio chat, replied "Yes" when asked if the Twitter logo will change, adding that "it should have been done a long time ago".

Elon is showing you can have serious mental shortcomings and still be rich

There is no good commercial reason to drop the bird (or "flip the bird"?). Recognizable and instantly understood to mean Twitter. And to replace it with an "X"? Homage to Malcolm? Agents Scully and Muldaur?

Musk does seem to make some strange decisions when it comes to Twitter.

 

I'm not sure why you would change such a recognizable logo/brand. Maybe he's just joking, you never know with Musk.

 

As long as it remains a free speech platform it will continue to be used by people who value said freedom of speech. It's an increasingly rare commodity in these times of Woke/Cancel culture.

X.com was a company Elon created that eventually became paypal. I am pretty sure he never sold that domain name.

Im guessing it has more to do with Space X. Makes sense.

X is normally the marker I use to get rid of unwanted adds and programs, oh well. Thanks Elon

I think that headline should read: “Time for Twitter to say goodbye to Elon Musk.”

'Space X', 'X' maybe all part of the branding.

It’s also where one (including the big boss Elon Musk himself) can share loony conspiracy theories that have no connection with the real world whatsoever. 

I'd say the logo is the least of their problems, but then again, Elon knows best as per usual. ????

So much for branding & marketing:  the bird, "tweet," and Twitter are recognized worldwide.  So let's change it.  To a generic Roman alphabet letter.  X.

Enjoy it while you can, Musk is claimiing it's close to bankrupt. One of the few times he has spoken the truth lately.
