All 40 Palang Pracharath MPs Including Prawit To Vote Srettha For PM

ALL 40 PALANG PRACHARATH MPs including party leader Prawit “Uncle Pom” Wongsuwan will almost certainly vote Pheu Thai candidate Srettha Thavisin for prime minister, no matter if the military-installed party will be brought into coalition government.

Palang Pracharath MP Pai Lik confirmed  today (Aug.10) all the 40 Palang Pracharath MPs including Prawit will almost certainly lend solid support for the real estate mogul-turned-prime ministerial candidate regardless of whether Uncle Pom’s camp will be brought into the Pheu Thai-led coalition government.

That the Palang Pracharath MPs will endorse Srettha for head of a post-election government would not be a big surprise since many of the MPs of Uncle Pom’s camp such as Palang Pracharath secretary-general Thammanat Prompao used to belong to the Pheu Thai under de facto party boss Thaksin Shinawatra, said Pai who is also an ex-Pheu Thai MP.

Whether the Pheu Thai might probably bring the Palang Pracharath onto the bandwagon is yet to be considered at a later date after the naming of the Pheu Thai candidate for prime minister in a joint House/Senate meeting, tentatively scheduled for Aug.17, according to the Palang Pracharath MP.

Well on the bright side maybe this will discourage another coup d' etat.

I thought the most important contributor to becoeing Thai PM was getting the Senators onside, not the lower house. So he gets 40 MP's. How does that affect the total numbers in any meaningful way?

Settha has got the backing of 40 MPs from a military backed party.

The Senate were appointed by military figures so Settha must be a good guy in their eyes.

It brings Palang Pracharath onto the team.

The Senate will not accept Settha, so how about Prawit?

After all, he and his party are in the government.

have to wonder how much it cost them to get the votes, many millions passed around I would think but again we see the contempt for thai people with the way pt are cosying up to the parties they said they would never associate with, shows that all they care about is getting their snouts back in the trough and bringing their leader back to Thailand, no regard for their followers at all

Much much longer for many of those in Pheu Thai. Another reason they need this deal.

Well, if Thammanat Prompao says it's good, we must believe him. After all, who doesn't trust a convicted heroin dealer?

Fact is, we should look at that allegation more closely. Thammanat’s political career kicked off in 1999 as a member of the Thai Rak Thai Party, the forerunner of the current opposition Pheu Thai Party (PTP), but he only won a parliamentary seat for the first time in March 2019 as a PPRP candidate.

So, no. He was not an MP with PT, and he never won a seat them. Therefore, he didn't technically work with them.

Golly gosh!  General Watchman must on tenterhooks waiting to see, if Thaksin will invite his party into the coalition, even though everyone except him knows it's a done deal.

There are 500 MPs, and 250 Senators.  To be confirmed as prime minister a candidate needs a simple majority across both houses, i.e 376 votes.  There is no separate limit requirement for MPs or Senators.  So, for example, if a candidate could secure 376 votes from the 500 MPs, he or she would not need a single vote from the Senate
