I got the free 30day visa when I arrived which runs out on the 28th July, I planned to leave on 29th so all was fine..

But i got the bangkok bug and want a few extra days...

Is it worth going on hope and just paying the extra 2000baht fee and leaving on 1st august?

Or should I try and get the 1900b 10day overstay visa?

How long does it take (ie will it waste a day) and what do I go to get one?

Popping out of the country won't help and I don't arrive back in Bangkok til the 28th so I can't get an update til then...

Thanks

It does not take a full day - a couple of hours at most.

Chance are you will have no problems just paying at airport - nothing for 1 day then 500THB a day on day 2 = 1000THB up to a max of 20K

If for some reason you get caught in Thailand on the overstay you will go to IDC and all the fuss that entails - people do miss plannes and have to stay until new ticket gets to you.

For me I have paid the old fee of 500THB for the one day - I have to get visa's for a lot of places for work and do not b=need any untoward marks on my passport.

Its up to you but know the risks

500 Baht/day for self declared overstay.....a short spell in prison if you're caught, deportation and a stamp in your passport preventing you returning. UP TO YOU.

The overstay in passport doe not prevent you from returning - I know of people with 3 max 20k fines still working in Bangkok

Just get the extension. Suan Plu office in BKK. Haven't needed one for 3 years now, but it used to take all of 15 mins. at the Imm. Office. Don't think it could have changed much.

I was referring to getting caught and deported - not just paying overstay fines

OK point taken - my misinterpretation

The 1900B 10 day extension is now.............7 days! (I found this out the hard way in May!)

Although you will not save any money I would get the extention for peace of mind, and also IMO it is never a bad thing to find out how these things work in practice, next time you may be after a 30 day extention or other immigration stuff......and knowing stuff in practice makes them quicker / less hassle next time.

Takes a couple of hours......and IMO well organised and fairly easy to work out what you do (fill out a simple form, attach the photo (a pot of glue is on hand!) go to "Reception" and get given a number, go and sit down, wait to be called / yer number flashes up, hand over yer passport, form and money, sit down and then wait to be called again to collect yer passport).

The Thai immigration website is great, address in English and Thai (and a map!) -

Bangkok Immigration

I just printed it out and showed it to a taxi Driver.........around 20 / 30 minutes away from lower Sukhumvit in a Taxi, quicker by Motorbike Taxi, don't forget the passport photo (shop accross the road). Saladaeng Skytain station is about 10 minutes away by Motorbike taxi.

Lets see if the map pops up here.............

Similar questions as the OP's.

I'm visiting Thailand in Sept. and flying on to Oz in Oct.

According to my reckoning my flight to Oz makes me two days overstayed in Thailand.

I might consider a short trip to a neighbouring country during my time there though.

If I visit Penang and return to Thailand will I get another 30 day visa or does the old one still apply?

If I wished to extend, there used to be a one week extension.

Is this still available and is there an office in Phuket.

If I wished to extend, there used to be a one week extension - used to be 10 days, now 7 days - (see above thread!).

Is this still available and is there an office in Phuket. - No idea about Phuket!, but I strongly suspect their will be. From my (long) past experiances of extending visas at Immigration in Samuii the procedure is the same as in BKK - and if Smauii had one 10 years back then I am sure Phuket has!.........but don't quote me!

According to my reckoning my flight to Oz makes me two days overstayed in Thailand. - That would cost you 1,000B. Although do not quote me and do not follow my "advice".........but I do think folk can be a bit too anal about overstays (does "Anal" get censored on TV :D ).......in May I had 4 days to pay at the new Airport (The 10 days down to 7 extention was a surprise for me!), I was interested to see what the attitude was given the "new rules" / "enforcement of the old rules", especially given that half my passport is full of overstays of up to a month at a time (I know it is not big and not clever - but me lazy / drink too mutt), but they were reassuringly the same as always in that they really did not give a sh#t, sign the form and pay the money all with a smile........... of course the worry / risk is a run in with plod when actually in Thailand that requires a passport to be produced...........and in all my (considerable) stupidity over the years as long stay alco-Tourist :D , I only had one run in with Plod, and my passport had a visa - but in any event that was the least of my concerns and problems...........and another story :D
