webfact
In a concerted effort led by immigration authorities, Nakhon Nayok Province has intensified its actions against illegal foreign nationals while simultaneously promoting tourism-friendly policies. On September 16, 2023, following the directives of Lieutenant General Phakphoom Pisit, the Commander of the Nakhon Nayok Province Police, and under the supervision of Police Lieutenant Colonel Waritsiri Leelasi, Chief of Immigration Police Division 3, a rigorous inspection and apprehension operation targeted foreign individuals in violation of immigration laws, reported Siam Rath. Picture: Siam Rath This operation aims to encourage compliance with immigration regulations and boost the region's appeal to tourists. The authorities sought to identify and apprehend foreign nationals who had entered the city unlawfully and engaged in aggressive public relations activities while staying in various accommodations like guesthouses, hotels, and resorts. Part of the promotion of these tourist-friendly policies involves the reporting of foreign guests' stays through an online system, as mandated by Sections 37 and 38 of the Immigration Act, designed to facilitate investigations and support foreign nationals. The suspects were subsequently handed over to immigration authorities for further legal action. So, presumably the thai people that let them stay there will be prosecuted for allowing illegals to stay ? No, thought not

crazykopite
If I’m correct they managed to apprehend the two people who no doubt were working for a Thai national my question is what punishment did the Thai national receive or did they just get a slap on the wrist
generealty
Is the Army still in control ? How does aggressive targeting of foriengers result in appeal to tourists ? I would have thought the opposite.

That's pretty much nonsensical. They'll be sent back to Cambodia, then pay someone to traffic them to Thailand again, helped by corrupt Thai officials at the border. Rinse and repeat. Plus, by my count, there appears to be more than TEN various police / government / military folks in the OP's first photo surrounding that very dangerous looking couple sitting in front of them... It's a wonder they didn't call out the SWAT team as well!
