we are an unmarried couple planning to move from UK to thailand.

I was born in Thailand (both parents are thai) and I hold a UK passport. My thai passport has since expired a long time ago. I have a Thai ID card.

Firtsly,

Is there a way that i can live in thailand permanetly as a Thai national without having to appy for visa's? i have been told that if i renew my thai passport, i can live in thailand without having to appy for visa's etc. Is this correct info?..

Secondly,

i have been advised to apply for a Type O multi entry visa from the UK. Upon entry into thailand with this type of visa, will i need to have an onward journey ticket or can i come in one a one way ticket?..

Thirdly,

my partner is a UK national and is currenlty working on a project in Angola. Project work takes him to various other countries also. He intends to make Thailand his home. Currently he plans to travel directly from Angola to Thailand, on a 4-6 wk basis, staying in thailand for no longer than 4 weeks each time. What type of visa would be recommended for him (we are thinking Multi entry Type "O")..Please advise...

With this type "O" visa, would he be required to have an onward journey ticket? This would be difficult as the nature of his work requires that he may have to travel to different countries after a short period at home time in thailand. It will not be viable to book a return ticket from lets say Angola, if he has no need to return. Please advise?....

thanks

With your Thai ID card and expired passport go to the Thai embassy in London (make an appointment first) and get yourself a Thai passport (takes maximum 6 weeks). then you can travel to Thailand and stay forever (no visa required). You enter and leave Thailand on your Thai passport and enter and leave any other country on your UK passport.

If your partner can get a Multi Entry Non Imm O visa from a Thai consulate in UK or other country then he can enter Thailand as many times as he wishes for a 1 year period and will not have to show an onward or return ticket on entry. (Maximum stay each time will be 90days)

1. As said, obtain a Thai passport and enter Thailand using that passport.

2. Use Thai passport. If you do not a single entry non immigrant O is all you need as you can easily extend your stay on a yearly basis with your Thai ID card at an immigration office and not have to leave the country every 90 days.

3. He should have a multi entry non immigrant O visa but there are few places that will issue. Hull in the UK is one. Otherwise I would write a letter of invitation for him to visit you as a Thai and perhaps some Consulates would accept that to issue visa. There should be no requirement for tickets with a visa entry.
