BANGKOK (NNT) - A key meeting was held to initiate cybersecurity operations under the 2019 Cybersecurity Act for the 2024 fiscal year.

Prasert Jantararuangtong, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, chaired the meeting which underscored the significance of 2024 as challenging for all agencies. Previously, it was reported to the Prime Minister that 15 million data records had been breached, indicating the need for strict data security measures to prevent public distress.

Digital wallet threats were also discussed, as members of the public eagerly anticipate the policy to provide a 10,000 baht stipend to the digital wallet system. The ministry plans to take proactive steps and elevate its readiness to handle such threats. As a result, the Personal Data Protection Committee has established the PDPC Eagle Eye, a center to monitor and investigate public data breaches and personal data leaks.

From November 9th to 20th, the PDPC Eagle Eye audited more than 3,000 organizations from both the governmental and the private sectors. The center detected nearly 1,200 data breaches and resolved 780 incidents. Additionally, three cases of personal data trading are under investigation by the Technology Crime Suppression Division. The center is tasked to scrutinize 9,000 organizations within 30 days.

Furthermore, the National Cybersecurity Agency has been assigned to inspect vulnerabilities in cybersecurity systems, especially in state agencies holding extensive public data. These agencies are instructed to correct any identified vulnerabilities promptly, with severe penalties for repeated offenses in line with the law.
