Community Greek Man Stricken by Mysterious Illness Left Without Treatment as Funds Run Dry in Rayong
Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A 66-year-old Greek national suffering from an undiagnosed illness has been left bedridden and without medical care after exhausting hundreds of thousands of baht on unsuccessful treatment, leaving his Thai wife heartbroken and desperate. Local charity group “Saphan Boon Ban Phe,” visited a modest home in Ban Nai Rai, Phe Subdistrict, Mueang Rayong District, where they met 48-year-old Mrs. Kotchakorn the wife and sole caregiver of Mr. Alex, who has been gravely ill since late February. Mrs. Kotchakorn explained that her husband began deteriorating rapidly after collapsing earlier this year. Despite spending several hundred thousand baht on medical consultations and treatment, no doctor has been able to provide a diagnosis. With their savings depleted and no access to state healthcare benefits, the couple has been forced to abandon formal treatment. Mr. Alex now remains confined to bed, his condition worsening by the day, suffering from severe muscle weakness and unable to care for himself. “He can’t walk, can’t move his arms properly and the doctors still can’t tell me what’s wrong,” Mrs. Kotchakorn said tearfully. “We’ve used everything we had. Now there’s no more money and no more options. I’ve brought him home to care for him here, I can only watch him fade away.” Inside the home, she showed journalists intricately carved wooden furniture which she is now trying to sell in a last-ditch effort to raise funds for basic household needs and palliative care for her husband. Mr. Alex, as a foreign national, does not qualify for the universal healthcare scheme. Without private insurance or consular support, the family has been left to fend for themselves. This case has sparked public sympathy, with calls for assistance from government agencies, NGOs and the Greek embassy. Many are urging authorities to step in and provide emergency support for what has become not only a medical crisis but a humanitarian one. As Mrs. Kotchakorn puts it: “I don’t want pity. I just want help, someone, anyone, to help him live with dignity for as long as he has left.” Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-06-29 -

Donald Trump Seems A Sure Thing For a Nobel Peace Prize!
Those of you on my personal FB page. One of my oldest friends was the quartermaster for the IAEA. My cousin was also a nuclear inspector. They are both on my friends list. The idea that 8 x IR-6 units and thousands of cascades can be moved in the back of trucks without leakage is beyond the realms of possibility. The idea that these units could be stripped down and moved in a few days is laughable. Pick a side. Either agree with Khamenei that Iran won a great victory over the USA and Israel. Or agree with the Iranian foreign minister who confirmed the sites were destroyed. It's a simple choice. -

Crime Teen Shot Dead in Drive-By Attack During Illegal Street Racing in Phatthalung
Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A 17-year-old teenager was fatally shot during an early morning illegal street racing gathering in Mueang District, Phatthalung province. Two others escaped injury, as police launched a manhunt using CCTV footage to trace the suspected gunman. The incident occurred at approximately 01:40 on 28 June, near the main bus terminal junction on Asia Highway in Khao Chiak Subdistrict. Pol. Lt. Panya Kaewmusik, Deputy Inspector of Mueang Phatthalung Police Station, received a report that a teenager had been shot and rushed to the emergency room of Phatthalung Hospital. The victim was later pronounced dead. The deceased, identified only as “A”, aged 17, had suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest. He had been riding a Honda Wave motorcycle with two other teenage friends, “B”, seated in the middle and “C”, riding pillion, as part of a convoy of dozens of motorcycles participating in a street racing event along the highway. According to “B”, a fellow 17-year-old and survivor of the attack, a Honda PCX motorcycle of unknown colour and registration drove past the group and fired a single shot, striking “A” and causing the motorcycle to crash. Chaos erupted among the group as the victim’s friends scrambled to rush him to hospital. Witnesses reported the emergency room was briefly overwhelmed by a crowd of street racers who had gathered in concern. “B” also told police he had heard multiple gunshots, around 2 or 3, moments before the attack but insisted that their group had not been involved in any conflict. Authorities suspect the incident may be the result of a rival group targeting the racers. Investigators have begun examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and inspecting the crime scene, where they found tyre marks and one of the victim’s shoes. Further questioning of the surviving passengers and others in the racing group is ongoing. Police have yet to determine a motive and are working to identify the assailant and vehicle used in the shooting. The case highlights the ongoing issue of street racing in provinces, which continues to pose dangers both to participants and the public. Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-06-29
