Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said on Sunday that a “People’s Constitution” is the ultimate goal of the government and all of Thai society.

 

Writing in his Constitution Day X post, the prime minister said that writing a Constitution is a major task which must involve all stakeholders, who must push for a “People’s Constitution”.

 

As a government under the Constitution, he said the administration is duty-bound to make it possible for such a supreme law to be written and promulgated.

 

Meanwhile Nikorn Chamnong, chief of a sub-committee gathering opinions from every corner of the country about a referendum on amending the current charter, said that theirtask has now been completed.

How ironic that this promise is coming from a man who was not elected, but rather appointed by the powers that be, and the guys who pull the puppet strings. He will say anything, his insincerity knows no bounds. Woe is Thailand with this kind of leadership.

Pheu Thai was voted by the majority of people and won the 2019 election but didn’t form the government. It would be awesome but not in the realms of political reality everywhere in the world

Well they weren't voted for by the majority last election but somehow are now in government, so how is that explained?

The 2014 constitution and role of the appointed senators in deciding the government. Pheu Thai suffered that same political reality in 2019 election.

Could simply reinstate the 97 Constitution with a tweak or 2, as that was fairly well done.  None really matter, as the next coup might just push the reset button anyway.  Any new constitution has to be approved by the powers to be anyway, so as stated ... BS.

There is no reason why there cannot be a new constitution.

 

After all it can be easily be replaced at the next military coup, unless of course the military have finally figured out that military coups are so unpopular that the next one will fail.

It's become obvious that this guy is just a pretty face for photo op opportunities and has no real power

Out of democratic necessity there must also be a new Constitutional Court that doesn't neutralize opposition political parties.

If I'm correct, Thailand had 20 constitutions since 1932 or roughly one ever close to five years. People have not understood the purpose of a constitution and hence the 21st version will be no surprise either. But to please the rest of the "democratic" world, it serves as a swindle sheet for the goons in Thailand's steering house ;-)

What does the old duffer who writes them think? Can he write one for the People or only for the 'good people.'

when they call it that, it sounds like a constitution for the benefit of the people, but we know who really benefits 😏
