Nightlife Extension Raises Concerns of Post-Closure Accidents

BANGKOK, Dec 15 (TNA) –  In response to the government’s extension of nightlife hours until 4 AM in selected areas, including Bangkok, Phuket, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui in Surat Thani province, concerns arise among residents in the upscale Thonglor neighborhood in the capital.

While many are not bothered by the noise, the predominant worry is the potential increase in road accidents due to intoxication after bars close at 4 AM.

Starting from today, Thonglor’s renowned nightlife hub will extend its operating hours until 4 AM. Residents in the area, express mixed sentiments.

Young adults residing in Thonglor appreciate the economic boost the nightlife provides to the neighborhood. Thonglor is distinct for its concentration of entertainment venues, with clubs and bars often clustered in Soi 10.

I've said this before, but at 0400, fewer "civilians" on the road, more drunks, so better odds of them taking out one of their own kind.  Maybe a plus.  /s

If you're not outside it won't affect you.

It will create all kinds of issues, all because of greed.

More muggings, more murders, more accidents, etc.

Nothing good happens when you mix alcohol and those late hours.

It looks like the drunk drivers will be mixing it with the rush hour traffic soon ...

There are drunk Thais on the road evey second of the day. This will make very little difference.

I'd be more bothered by the noise if I had property near the extended nightlife.

Drunk driving, unfortunately is a way of life in Thailand.

Perhaps it'll be safer as they'll be fewer sober people out and about to get hit at that time of the morning.

2am / 4am will make little difference as the damage is already done if they are stupid enough to drive home.

There was talk in NZ about closing carparks at 11pm & you had to pass a breath test to drive your vehicle out.

Not sure what happened but idea makes sense

Nice to see the old and grumpy, who have forgot they were young once, on AN.

If the statistics showed less accidents/deaths are less at 2am, they would still fight to keep it at 4.  It is all about the money, and my feeling sometimes that saving life means little here.

It's a bit late now to start worrying, it all started last night....well this morning!

The 4 AM to 6AM crashes will keep the police night shift busier, I imagine.

That may be one aspect of this longer opening times, not thought of,  than the crashes that used to happen after 2 AM.

IMO
