JeffersLos Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 The check engine light has been coming on and off, so we got an ECU reading at a mechanics. Apparently it is the knock sensor, from their message. Any comments, recommendations etc welcome.
stubuzz Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Ask them to read the freeze frame data and post a screen shot of it.
JeffersLos Posted December 15, 2023 Author Posted December 15, 2023 They said they need to investigate why the knock sensor is bad, and it would take 1-2 days to do this. They look cheap online, less than 1000THB.
JeffersLos Posted December 15, 2023 Author Posted December 15, 2023 They reported that a new knock sensor is around 3xxx THB.

JeffersLos Posted December 15, 2023 Author Posted December 15, 2023 I guess it isn't an emergency fix or die situation, like faulty brakes, and a faulty knock sensor will be okay to drive for a while as we research it.
Toby1947 Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Cheap job even with genuine parts. Don't buy online almost certain to be cheaper fakes especially in the Land of Scams.

HauptmannUK Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 I assume this is a Mazda 2 or 3. They go bad frequently and we replace a lot in the UK. Resistance of the sensor should be 550kohm +/- 30k. If its high (usually they go over 1Mohm) replace with a genuine Mazda part. The sensor is under the inlet manifold IIRC, so need to remove inlet to replace. 1 1
