Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt says he would like the Environment Department to develop a device to trap smoke from the cooking of grilled pork skewers, after receiving many complaints about excessive smoke emitting from grilled pork stalls.

The governor disclosed what he described as interesting findings from two air quality measurement stations in the Bang Na area, which are close to a shopping mall where venders are selling grilled pork.

The findings, from December 2nd to 15th, show higher levels of PM2.5 dust in the area close to where grilled pork sewers are available than in nearby areas, said the governor, adding that he has assigned one of his advisors to find out if the smoke from the grilling is affecting people in the neighbourhood.

They really do need to start an out-breeding programme.... the gene pool in Thailand is obviously in serious decline.

What a stupid idea.. there are more cars driving around with blacksmoke that pollute more and get rid of all old cars of 25 years and older.. grilling pork will not help so much, but fine burning ricefields, and factories that will emit much more

😂😂😂

I like his 'out-of-the-box' thinking. I suggest too that the Minister of Agriculture be requested to consider the practicability of fitting swine herds with anti 2.5 PM masks throughout tneir life cycle.

Rearranging the deck chairs again. Nero would be so proud.

Like the old 2 stroke Tuk tuks ...and they took years to get rid of.

Not a crazy idea.   My buddy started and owns the purpleair.org particulate monitors.  He gifted me one of the first 50 models.  Now Wowldwise and a few in Thailand.  They use Wi-Fi to send in data every so many minutes. One day he called me and asked me what was going on? My monitor had spiked to over 300ppm.  I had started a fire in my  fire pit sone 35' away from the monitor.  The smoke never blew that direction but it taught me how bad open fire smoke is for pm 2.5s.

Suggest grilling governors instead 🤔

So grilling chicken, fish is OK? This sounds like someone living nearby has complained, so would I.

Don't go after big agra, the real culprits here. And don't go after the sugar farmers either. Go after the pork vendors!

And this guy was elected? With an IQ of 72?

Where there is smoke there is chicken🤔

Nothing compared to massive field fires from burning cane, with the columns of smoke billowing hundreds of meters into the air. The range of your smoke was likely 25 meters. Compared to many kilometers for one field fire, and hundreds of kilometers from countless irresponsible sugar farmers. Lock up the big agra bigwigs. Nobody will miss them.

Obviously not in his position because of his intelligence or aptitude.

Sounds like if the governor had a brain : he would be seriously dangerous!

Indicative of a tiny brain, totally devoid of creativity and the ability to come up with real, effective solutions. Since he has little control of the real culprits (big agra), he must feel the need to do something. But this? Really? Looks like they elected the wrong guy for the job.

How about using "pure smoke"?

One wonders how such plainly dim witted people get to be in such positions of authority. But I have to think to the UK and the example some of our MPs make......

I'm always impressed by some of the fancy fans and ducting some cart vendors rig up.  I doubt  they are just after poek rather than all grilled meats.  Im a fan of cooking over real wood and charcoal over gas or pellets but it does produce more pollution than you realize.   You see how many bags those charcoal vendors deliver every day all around BKK

NYC has restrictions on BBQ smoke houses and restaurant exhaust.

Yes they should do smog tests on buses and trucks.  Yes they should stop crop burning.   Everyone thinks the smoke they produce goes somewhere else.

You do see what this elitist are doing right?

Demonize the little people and ignore those injecting millions of metric tons of CO2 into the atmosphere via private jets.

My proposal?  All government officials must fly economy class.  Ban private airplanes completely.  Don't look at the primary CO2 pollutors.  Focus on Somchai the Moo-chin seller.  Little people Bad.  They'll kill us all
