A week or so ago, either on the Pattaya Forum or the Pattaya News Clippings Forum, comments were made about statistics and interpretations.

I have tried to find current or very recent statistics, but all seem to be sealed. The best I could do was these 2001 figures from Interpol, on a limited number of countries. Nothing available from the States, Germany or France on this particular year.

Note that there are some obvious irregularities, even in these figures.

Murder is very high in Thailand but theft is extraordinarily low. I assume most thefts are not reported here because 1) the police do not bother much and 2) the goods are not insured. Thefts are reported in the West so that insurance claims will be supported.

I realise that these figures and statements will be attacked and interpreted in many ways, but if you can do better - please do so. :o:D
