The cabinet agreed today to cut the excise tax on diesel by one baht per litre for three months, effective January 20 until April 19.

Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat said that the tax cut will help ease the financial burden on consumers, but will cost the state about Bt6 billion in revenue loss over the three-month period.

He said the government will try to manage energy prices in line with global oil prices and in a way that it will not place too much of a burden on the national budget in the long term.

Bugger. I didn't see that coming.

We just filled the Ford Ranger up this morning.

Oh great.

Let's make it cheaper for all of those diesel engines to pollute the air.

A bit of advice - switch the engines off when you pop into the shop or are sitting waiting for your loved one to come.

How many times do we see trucks, cars etc sitting there stationary with the bloomin engine running.

I wonder where these people who are saving the money on diesel are going to spend all this newfound wealth? Perhaps it will enable them to buy an extra bowl of soup?

It's now the 20th and diesel is still the same price as before.  Did they change their minds?
