Crash Helmets

Featured Replies

Hi all, i am new to this forum and sort of new to Thailand - so hello to everyone - and here goes my first post.

I was stopped on my motorcycle a few days ago for entering a side street in south pattaya which had a no left turn sign,

and fined 600 baht on the spot.  The sign however was not visible untill i entered the side street - i supposed the police must know that

- since it is obvious - but it makes a good place to shoot fish in a barrel.  Anyway i digress.  My main point is about wearing a crash helmet.

As everyone will know it is a common sight in pattaya to see the police stopping people for not wearing crash helmets.  No sypathy for the many

fools who seem to smile and quite happily pay the fine!  However, i find it strange - to say the least - that the very same police (force) stand outside schools in east pattaya controling the traffic at home times and waving on 10 year old kids (maybe 12 year olds) not wearing helmets - with

2 or sometimes 3 more kids on the bikes also helmetless.  I have asked thais and they just smile.

Schoolkids dont usually have the 100/200 Bht fine for not wearing a crash helmet so no point in stopping them, simple.

You should be grateful they fine farangs, as if your ever in an accident motorbike, you maybe wearing a helmet as your not happy to pay anymore fines.

I would love it if this 1 law in Thailand was actually taken serious, as almost all Thais you meet have a family member or friend who has died or has a brain injury due to not wearing a helmet.

has a brain injury due to not wearing a helmet.

i think its more likely the case that a pre-existing or congenital brain injury reduces their ability to see the sense in wearing the helmet in the first place.

perhaps a subsequent brain injury might actually knock some sense back into the affected organ.

almost all Thais you meet have a family member or friend has a brain injury due to not wearing a helmet.

well thats their story anyway

To die from head injuries....is cheaper.

Losing any limbs while riding.....thats more expensive in the long run.

Life is unfortunately too cheap for some Thais.

And I wear Full Face Helmet. Not because I am high maintenance.

Its just that If I die, I hope my face are intact.
