A local posted a video on his Facebook account, อามิตร อามอ อิสลาม, at about 8am yesterday, March 3, showing a green Jeep partially submerged in the water at Kalama Beach. Many foreigners were seen taking pictures with the car. The Thai man said in the video… “New photogenic spot for a selfie on Kamala Beach! Another one. Again. The wheels were already dipped in the sand. Foreigners came to take pictures and laughed at this. Another job for the government official. One foreigner even suggested authorities pull the car up using an elephant.” According to the Thai man, the car had been rented by a Chinese tourist. Despite warnings from several locals and beach vendors, the tourist proceeded to drive onto the sand, ignoring their advice. The video featured the song Let Her Go by English folk singer and songwriter Passenger (Michael Rosenberg) playing in the background. The person recording mentioned that the song was being played in the car by the Chinese tourist, who relaxed to the music while awaiting the authorities. The Thai man also noted in the video that the sea water level continued to rise, leaving the car stuck in the sand. There is no information available regarding the duration it took for the authorities to arrive at the scene or the time spent extracting the vehicle. The report did not specify the extent of damage incurred by the car. Another beach-related car incident was reported in December last year at Bang Saray Beach in the Sattahip district of Chon Buri. A damaged bronze Toyota Vios was found on the beach without a driver. Witnesses informed the rescue foundation that a Thai woman had parked the car on the beach road for a while before driving directly onto the beach. The woman was safe and left the car before disappearing. The report did not mention the motive behind her actions.
