BANGKOK (NNT) - Deputy Director General of the Department of Internal Trade (DIT) Udom Srisomsong revealed after inspecting vendors at Krungthep Apiwat central station and Mo Chit 2 coach station that during the Songkran festival, when a significant number of individuals travel back home or visit other provinces, they primarily rely on public buses or trains. In addition to consuming meals and beverages, they also purchase goods for personal consumption or as gifts for their loved ones. Consequently, the Department of Internal Trade has deployed officials to conduct thorough inspections and closely monitor the pricing of goods, aligning with the directives of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Phumtham Wechayachai

Furthermore, there has been a campaign to raise awareness among business operators at various transport and railway stations, such as food and beverage vendors, consumer goods sellers, and luggage trolley service providers, to clearly display price tags and service charges. Additionally, they are encouraged to ensure that the prices of goods and services match those displayed on the price tags to prevent unjustified price hikes during periods of increased service demand.

Udom emphasized that the DIT stresses the importance for business operators to clearly display price tags. Failure to do so may result in a fine of up to 10,000 baht. In cases where goods are sold at unreasonably high prices, hoarding occurs, or sellers refuse to sell, the penalty may include imprisonment for up to 7 years, a fine of up to 140,000 baht, or both. If the public encounters unfair sales practices, they can file complaints via the DIT hotline at 1569, [email protected], or at provincial commerce offices nationwide. DIT will dispatch officials to investigate, and if violations are found, strict legal actions will be taken.
