A Thai woman is seeking compensation after a taxi, booked through a ride-hailing app, mistakenly took her to the wrong airport in Bangkok resulting in her missing her flight. Her identity has been kept confidential for privacy.

 

The woman posted the incident, which occured in February, on Facebook, expressing dissatisfaction over the driver and the app's lack of responsibility. The driver countered by stating that she neglected to monitor the journey's progress.

 

According to the woman's interview with Channel 7, she had an early flight for a business trip to Phitsanulok and booked a taxi from her residence in Sukhumvit to Don Mueang International Airport.

 

Engrossed in her phone, she didn't realise she had been taken to Suvarnabhumi International Airport until she was nearing it. Her attempts to reach Don Mueang in time failed, and she missed her flight.

 

In a video shared on Facebook, the woman can be seen demanding the driver pay for her replacement flight, only to have the driver counter that she should have alerted him about the incorrect route.

 

She reached Don Mueang at 7.30am, too late for her original flight, and had to wait five hours for the next one. The driver didn't charge her for the ride but refused to compensate for her new flight.

 

This misadventure resulted in significant work and financial loss for her. Despite reporting the issue to the app and the Land Transport Department, she has not received any compensation or positive response to date.

Had the same last week with a woman from a driving app. App said go to DM, she drove to Suv. Luckily I found out within 5 minutes. 

Thai taxi drivers leave a lot to be desired ,

" The driver countered by stating that she neglected to monitor the journey's progress." it's

always someone else's fault ,

Does she really expect the struggling and underpaid  gig economy driver to compensate her for the loss?

Yeah good luck with that based on how much Bolt drivers make.  The cost of missing the flight is cheap anyway compared to the life learning lesson that this has provided.  Lessons like this will ensure she is better prepared for future journeys and help her to be more aware of her surroundings in the future.   

She will have a map of the route to her destination, as would the driver.  However, I have noticed in some an almost complete lack of understanding of what a map is or its purpose.  It would be interesting to learn if she actually booked the trip to the right airport.

Hi so entitlement much. Had she not been buried in her phone she would have quickly noticed the mistake. Plus would have helped to confirm her destination as soon as she got in the cab. But that would have involved talking to the cabbie , somebody way below her station , a thing she could not do as obviously so up herself.

Women seem to have a bad sense of direction.

 

Always have.

Always will.

 

The cause is due to Evolution.

We evolved as hunters.

 

Men are the HUNTERS.

Women are the COOKERS.

 

Women stay home at the campsite, and rarely leave.

 

So...

 

Women did not evolve with a sense of direction.

 

 

I always verbally confirm with the driver when I get into the car.

I had the same thing happen to me in Rio de Janiero. Luckily made my flight though!

Indeed....  in any of these 'ride hailing apps' the destination is very clear. 

 

- Did the woman enter the wrong airport in the App in the first place ?

- Did the woman enter in the correct Airport, and the driver simply read Airport on the App on his end, and assumed Suvarnabumi without looking at the App. 

 

If the former, its 100% the womans own fault. 

If the latter, the company (GRAB, Bolt or whatever) should be held accountable for the lady missing her flight. 

 

Yes, she should have confirmed with the driver when entering the car, she should have watched the direction etc... BUT - the driver should be taking her to the correct Airport IF the App was used correctly.

The stupidity of the woman is almost beyond belief. If she had been a non-Thai speaking tourist, one might have some sympathy ...

This shows you exactly what is wrong with Thailand today. Why don't they operate flights from Suvanahbumi to Don Muang? She would have been okay then as it would have cut out the traffic.

Driver is correct. But in Thailand it is always, always someone else's fault.

Actually, they did. Once, when Thaksin had set a date for Suvarnabhumi to open and it wasn't ready, so to save face he ordered a flight from there to Don Mueang to prove that, indeed, Suvarnabhumi was 'open'. Even if only for one day. For one flight. Pathetic.

She should sue the ride-hailing company & the driver for the extra air fares.
