Police in Sisaket have ramped up their efforts to address illegal immigration, specifically targeting the bustling railway market area. This heightened surveillance is designed to ensure the safety of both locals and tourists.

In a recent swoop, law enforcement nabbed Thonglueng Chuyad, a 31-year-old resident of Mueang Phon Thong in Champasak, Laos.

She was detained on charges of entering and staying in Thailand without the necessary documentation. This arrest forms part of a broader initiative by local authorities to boost security and rigorously monitor foreign nationals within the region.

This crackdown follows directives from Piya-anant Tosakulwong, Commissioner of Immigration Division 4, and Manuwat Kosanan, Deputy Commissioner. The operation was led by Jiraprapa Suthaprida, Superintendent of Immigration in Sisaket, alongside deputies Natee Thongsukkaew and Chanya Promwaree.

Thonglueng's detention was announced by Maneeporn Boonliang, an inspector at the Sisaket Immigration Office. She was supported by the investigative and anti-human trafficking teams from the Department of Employment in Sisaket.

The inspection at the railway market on Rajakarn Rotfai 3 Road in Mueang Tai Subdistrict was part of a larger policy to intensify checks on foreign nationals living in the kingdom.

When questioned, Thonglueng admitted her origins from Champasak, Laos, but failed to produce a passport or any travel documents when requested by officers.

Consequently, she was charged with being a foreigner entering and residing in Thailand without permission and informed of her legal rights. She will undergo the appropriate legal proceedings according to Thai law.

Jiraprapa stressed that this arrest is in line with the immigration office’s policy of cooperating with local security agencies to enhance the screening of foreign nationals. The ultimate aim is to protect the community and prevent incidents that could jeopardise the well-being of both locals and tourists.

Whilst I agree with the removal of genuine illegal immigrants, as opposed to refugees, there is a lot of verbiage in the article for one little lass sneaking into the country to try and earn a living.

I expected to read about truck loads.
